    sound Question about getting sound.

Thanks for answering those questions man, you're far more experienced than I thought you were, more so than I am, anyway! My recommendations would be the same as the guys above, make some low budget throwaway movies for practice, especially incorporating the skills you'll need for your feature...

    archived-videos Letter from Lorca

Delicate, attentive, tragic yet laced with hope; much like the man's work. A very fitting tribute, sir.

Hello from a southern northerner :)

Welcome to the forums dude. Checked out your film, I liked it. Can of Stella in the pocket, you can tell you're a northerner ;) It was a bit long for my attention span (although I stuck it out!) and it had a pretty good story. I wasn't sold on the 6 years in prison thing, the main character...

    sound Question about getting sound.

Harmonica, I don't want to be too forward here, but I've read most of your posts on this forum and I think people would be in a better place to help you out if you maybe answered some fundamental questions: 1) How old are you? Not entirely relevant, but it might help gauge your experience. 2)...

    British Filmmakers

Hey all, I'm Simon, also from the UK (also based in Southampton, in fact). I'm currently making short films, mainly comedies, with a group of friends. I still have much to learn but I'm enjoying it more than anything I've ever done before. I would describe myself as a total novice when it comes...

    archived-videos Royal Parks of London

Oh very nice! Loved the focus pulling and your choice of shots. Incidental notes: 1) When the ducks shot came on, my temperamental speakers took the opportunity to put out the most insane high-pitched abominable noise, and then finish off with a bass pop so loud my eardrums nearly exploded...

    Indoor / Outdoor Shotgun Mics?

Thanks GP. I can see I'm mixing up a lot of terminology, thank you for straightening me out. It was a bit annoying buying the NTG-2 which is advertised on Rode's website as a shotgun mic, and when it comes the box says it's a super-cardioid. Turns out a super-cardioid was better suited for what...

    Indoor / Outdoor Shotgun Mics?

Sorry for my noobiness here, but am I right in saying that a cardioid (indoor) mic, say for instance the Rode NTG-2, is not a shotgun? And shotgun mics are only lobar mics that are used outdoors? And by extension, a mic that is designated "super-cardioid/lobar" (e.g. Sennheiser ME66) is not...

    sound Question about sound mixing.

Do it. If you're worried about wasting a good script, just write a rubbish script and film that. You don't have to show anybody. Improvise a script and shoot something you make up based on a concept and a shot list (that's what I did). Just do something and if (when?) it doesn't work out...

archived-videos Want to hear The Star Tree?

Ah, nice one man, that's a really groovy story! That would totally stick in my head, brought a smile to my face. Great mix of simple words for the kids to get hold of, with the odd longer word for educational benefit (e.g. "uproarious"). I wish I had kids to show it to :D Congrats!

    archived-videos FLANK :: A Short Action Film

Great work, the action sequences were nicely paced and the photography was crisp, well shot. I thought the gun sounds were a bit too... I don't know... Harsh? I think if they had a more muffled sound, it wouldn't have been so jarring. That said, I don't know much about guns, only "movie guns"...

    archived-videos JJJ - A Short Film

I thought it was okay, I guess. A bit arty and I didn't understand it, but I'm sure that you're sure that it has a meaning. Fair enough :D The only criticism I can offer, not knowing what it's about, and indeed not knowing much about arty films, is that it needed better sound. The music at the...

Funny! And well shot. And thank god someone isn't taking the Mac v PC thing as seriously as the rest of the internet :D

Firstly, I need to confirm: you are 16? Bloody hell! Your film has some damn awesome cinematography, especially the water sequences. Those kids are great actors. Everything looked so clean, crisp... Oh dude, I heart this film! I'm gushing. I apologise. Ahem. Okay, some of the dialogue was a...

    archived-videos Action Movie Attempt

I'm not sure how much this will help (depends on your financial situation) but my friends and I put a small amount of cash in a kitty once a month. If you put $10 a month in each, and there's five of you, that's $50 for some better kit like lights or a field recorder. In two months you could...

    archived-videos The Viewing - comedy / horror

Thanks for the comment, man, I agree the exterior lights were too much in a couple of scenes. Definitely need to find a way to prevent that in future. Perhaps the shot in the doorway was overexposed and needed a key light on the actor. I pretend I know what I'm talking about, lol. Thanks for...

    archived-videos The Viewing - comedy / horror

Hi all We have just released a new short comedy (with elements of mild horror) called The Viewing. It's about an estate agent who shows a man around a creepy house plagued by the terrifying phantom figure of bizarre incumbent Hans von Kinder. It was our most ambitious project to date, so we'd...

    archived-videos Assassin - short film

@harmonica44 - apologies, I think "narrative" was the wrong word to use in my initial description. "Sequence" would have probably have been better. Fair comment, there's no deep meaning or hidden symbolism, that I'm aware of... Or is there...? And yeah, the victim was a total fairy. Maybe he was...

    archived-videos Interfacing

Ah man, that was so good up until the end! The dialogue was funny and engaging, the conversation flowed quite naturally for the most part and the presentation was quirky and original. Shame you ruined it with the cheap stunt at the end, it puts me off watching any more in the series.
