Any good prop makers on this forum?

I need a very specific gun prop - a Colt 1908 Vest Pocket Model .25 cal, nickle plated with pearl grips (see photo below). We already have an airsoft replica, but we need one version made out of foam or some other compressable material so that the actor can fit the entire gun inside his mouth...

    Porn question

A lot of people, including attorneys, who believe in the first amendment would strongly disagree with you. This is all academic to me, as I don't plan on producing a porno any time soon. However, if you're inclined to make one I'd say shoot it wherever you want. Just make sure your distributor...

Am i the only one that thinks this scene is underrated?

Very cool. Almost as mind-blowing as this scene: http://youtu.be/ZD0_5HFMPIg

The things you hate to see in Short films?

Short films that are weird and artsy just for the sake of being weird and artsy.

Could I have a budget this low for this type of movie?

We're talking low budget indie horror films here, not Hollywood Epics. Horror can look just fine shot on a RED or even a 5D. I've even seen decent horror flicks shot on an XL-1s. It all depends on the context. My point was that just a few years ago filmmakers didn't really have a choice. If...

    Porn question

That is not even close to true. Porn is filmed all over the country, even on the open road (as with series like Girls Gone Wild and Bang Bus). There are plenty of porn producers on the East Coast and in Florida. As long as it's filmed on private property, I don't think there are any laws that...

FILMMAKERS: What films would you like to make in your career?

While we're on the list game . . . As a filmmaker, list the films you'd like to make over the course of your career. You don't have to be story specific, just genre will do. Also, don't make it a dream list. Keep it to films that you could realistically see yourself making. For me it would be...

Films I Think I Should Be Able To Shoot

Recent films . . . that's a tough one, especially just from the past five years. I haven't watched that many recent films. Machete Hobo with a Shotgun Crazy Heart No Country For Old Men Insidious Hell Ride Trailer Park of Terror Dead Man's Bounty The Spirit (Honestly, my current production is...

Using a well known Superhero in a film, but not in a usual way.

Thanks much, guys, for all the advice. Yeah, if we ever get this film into production I can see how just creating our own superhero might be the way to go. This character only appears in a few scenes, so it might be possible to shoot those scenes twice: once with Batman, once with Superhero X...

Films I Think I Should Be Able To Shoot

Look, I know how important sound is to film, and I can see where it might take a lot of money to produce the lavish layers of sound in a typical blockbuster production. But we're not talking blockbusters here. We're talking low budget indie films with very simple soundtracks. I just have a...

Films I Think I Should Be Able To Shoot

Sorry, I just have a hard time buying that. Audio is really not that difficult. Further, I don't believe those costs should be part of the original equation. If a major studio does pick up your film, let them foot the bill for conforming it to whatever theatrical standards they require as part...

Using a well known Superhero in a film, but not in a usual way.

I'll have to re-watch True Romance. Saw it once years ago but I don't remember how the Elvis thing was handled. Thanks for the suggestion. And I agree with your advice on how to handle the superhero character too, which , by the way, I don't guess it will give anything away to say that the...

Using a well known Superhero in a film, but not in a usual way.

For several years I have been sitting on a very good screenplay written by a friend of mine over a decade ago. He was pretty much a nobody back when he wrote it, but is now a well-known published author. Still, he says the script is mine if I want to produce it. The story is a dark comedy which...

Using clips of other films in my film...

I'm 47 and I would get it. I'm not only familiar with the movie White Heat, I can think of two other movies right now that also include clips from that film and reference the same line. Here's an idea . . . why don't you create your own version of the clip yourself using an actor and a process...

Copyright issues on naming a Studio.

I'm not an attorney, and do not pretend to be qualified to give legal advice, but, as a layman who's worked in and around the advertising and publishing world for almost 30 years, I don't believe your logo is close enough to anything to present a problem. However, just to get the terminology...

    Porn question

I've never shot a porn, but I don't believe there'd be any special licenses required as long as you're not shooting it in a public place. I do believe there are compliance laws about record keeping to prove your models/actors are of age and have consented to be filmed. Not sure what they are...

Could I have a budget this low for this type of movie?

Sorry about getting to this party so late, but I just joined this forum a couple days ago and just now found this thread. Here's my take on it: Some people could make an excellent movie for $85K, while others would never even attempt it. I guess it all depends on what you're used to working...

    Which Canon?

Assuming the 5D is out of your price range, you really can't go wrong with any of the other Canons mentioned. As long as you understand the quirks and limitations of DSLRs in general, they are a great way to get a true cinematic tool into your hands for cheap.

How did I miss this? Iron Sky

Maybe it just suits my oddball sense of humor, but I thoroughly enjoyed it on every level. My only slight criticism is that I thought the token black guy getting the girl and saving the day was just a little too predictable and cliche.
