    Amusing bunnies.

This is quite amusing. I apologise if you've seen it before, I tend to be about a year or so behind with these things. http://www.angryalien.com/ 'Jaws' is my favourite. Steven

How to speak with a British Accent?

Those accents are as close to Mancunian as Dick Van Dyke's was to Cockney. :)

As anyone got anything on the 'Internet Movie Database'?

Very impressive Sonny, was it the films appearances at festivals which made them eligible, did they receive honours? or did they have some kind of limited release? or did you sell a certain number of videos/DVDs? or is it your profile within the industry which makes them eligible? Or, or, or...

As anyone got anything on the 'Internet Movie Database'?

Has anyone got anything on the 'Internet Movie Database'? Hello, I was looking through the 'eligibility' section on the 'Internet Movie Database' which all seemed pretty sensible. Has anyone managed to get their low budget, independent film listed? I realise that a number of members are...

How to speak with a British Accent?

What kind of British accent? Regional ones could be tricky but if you want to speak 'BBC British', you have to pronounce ever word fully and annunciate every vowel. Are you after a particular accent? For instance is your character 'Lord of the Manor' or a 'Scouse Squaddy?'

    Better camera or better equipment?

I would agree sound is very important. Poor sound is more distracting than rough visuals. The eye can get used to a lot, especially if you're following a good story. You'll notice that when professionals (with real budgets) deliberately go for a low quality imagery (for whatever reason) the...

    tv 10 Favourite TV titles

Porridge just missed my list because I couldn't be sure whether it was the titles or the fact that I knew that the show was going to be great. Also notable for having no music. The U.S. are particularly good at titles. Here's a few more that I remembered after making my initial list. The...

    tv 10 Favourite TV titles

Sometimes TV show titles are better than the actual programmes. Here's ten of my favourites. To me these titles say 'sit down and get ready to be entertained'. Strangely I don't even watch some of these shows. Not in order: The Rockford Files Skarsky & Hutch The Six Million Dollar Man The...

    Is iDVD deliberately poor?

Firstly, I have since found out that I may have made a mistake about iDVD's PAL DV resolution. Although I agree with directorik about it getting what you pay for. I would point out that it comes as part of a peice of kit with quite a hefty price tag. I'll start saving up for Final Cut now I've...

    Is iDVD deliberately poor?

Hello, I've just got a shinny new G5 at work and was looking forward to burning some test footage I had shot to DVD. I plan to buy FInal Cut Studio but was hoping iDVD would have some uses. I have found away around the annoying 'themes', but why does iDVD create movies at 640x480, even for...

When filming, please inform the police.

Perhaps the police were film buffs and remembered 'After the Fox' starring Peter Sellers and Victor Mature. Sellers character poses as a famous director as a cover for his criminal activitites. I think the students should ask for the police surveillance tape, it could look pretty cool in their...

£400 budget film makes Cannes Film Festival Shortlist

From BBC website: "A civil servant with no formal training has had his £400 short film selected for competition at the prestigious Cannes film festival. " http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/low/entertainment/4527057.stm That's about $740

    Projection Room Tour

I recently spent a couple of hours taking a tour of the projection rooms at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television and their Pictureville theater (Bradford, UK). It had never occurred to me how important and fascinating this final part of the film process could be. Admittedly...

    Hugh Laurie

A bit of Hugh Laurie trivia, he was a member of the Cambridge boat crew for the 1980 Boat Race*. Cambridge lost. * The Boat Race - A traditional British event between Oxford and Cambridge Universities that the BBC seem to think the whole country should be interested in and should regard as a...

Thanks for the 'heads up' Clive. that could have been a costly mistake. I hadn't really tested that feature yet. Steven

    Canon XM1, any good?

Just thought I'd post my progress with the Canon XM1. After doing some test footage I have been very impressed with such a 'cheap' camera. The quality is good (especially as I am going to 'rough it up' in FCP). Pretty good manual controls, I didn't realise how random the automatic ones could...

    Canon XM1, any good?

Hello, whilst my '35mm master peice' is still very much in pre-production, I have written and a short film which I am using as a learning curve. I intend to shoot this cheaply as it only needs to be up to broadcast quality for DVD. I have free access to a Canon XM1 MiniDV Camcorder. Does anyone...

    Avid or Final Cut Pro?

Thanks to everyone for the comments. As I come from a design background, I am more familiar with Macs. So FCP will probably suit me better. Cheers Steven
