    Screenwriting: Hobby or Job?

I feel like I'm interning (if that makes sense) putting in hours for free, gaining experience and growing in my craft to make it into a career (job , for the sake of this conversation).

    Starting a Reality TV Show

Hi All, I have an opportunity to pursue a reality tv show pilot with a friend of mine. This is somewhat new territory for me as I am working towards a career in film not so much television. I would love any advice. Right now we are working to get shooting soon and line up a spot on a local...

    Filming a Phone Call

I have a similar scene in my current script. I only wrote half the conversation. Of course, I wrote in important reactions to what was said on the other line but if you won't actually hear it in the film then it would be misleading to put it in the script and give an inaccurate sense of how the...

Found some big reasons why my feature script is not working.

It could be interesting to flashbacks for a b-story of HOW it got on the ship in the first place. That could also reveal more info about the illness and how serious it can get, maybe giving the audience a little more info than some of the characters and creating some suspense (sorry for the...

character How to make characters talk about random things? (comedy)

It sounds like what you are going for is character/plot development that really feels like anything but. Honestly, my best advice is to be nosy :) and listen to people's conversations. You hear people say things some times that really make it clear what kind of person they are or what type of...

    character Character Bios

I'd say if you're going to try out a character bio, just go for it. DOn't worry about length. Also, you can take an approach of answering certain questions about your character. What are his/her major ideas on major issues, on his/her own life? What major life events brought them to this line of...

Near death experience as a filmmaker?

A friend of mine almost got shot by the police shooting a robbery scene guerilla style.

Is the director being unfair to me?

The only thing that sounds odd is constantly being given short notice of when you be on set (if I read your post correctly). I think that would drive anyone nuts. Otherwise, the Director would not have much on set interaction with the Sound Recordist. She'd have her hands pretty full with the...

    Single Location Discussion Movie

The underlined is a problem if the general response you are getting is that the beginning is great but then yes, you have a problem. Are the people reading your script a good representative of your target audience? If so, then they are letting you know you have a huge problem. If not, then I...

How is my idea for a short film?

It sounds interesting for a super short film. You definitely have some fun moments to explore with the camera. One thing though, the way you've described it here I think Matt's character comes out of nowhere. If we are not introduced to him in the beginning, do you have any other plans on how we...

story Is This a good story plot for a film? I'm not sure...

It sounds like a great start. Just keep in mind in your development that you don't want it to be predictable. As you figure out your tone I think you can be well on your way to a wonderful story. The thing with these movies that aim to t each a lesson though is that they can come off preachy...

Brain Storming Ways To Make Shorts Profitable

The only time I have known someone to spend money on shorts as a consumer is renting one those dvds with multiple horror shorts. You may be able to pull this off with other genres but horror seems like a great one with the built in b movie market.

    format Formatting Question

I'm in a scene where my protagonist is in a car accident. She hits her head on the dashboard (she's the front passenger in a car that is hit from behind) and has a VERY SHORT lapse of consciousness, a brief disorientation if you will. The accident is modeled after an accident I was in myself...

    Writing Schedule

Great feedback...never thought of a voice recorder app. Also lunch break is definitely a good time for notes, planning, etc. I've been a life long procrastinator and am finally buckling down. Thanks for the tips.

    Making Drafts

My experience with shorts is that when I get to my later drafts I get to a stage of "trimming the fat" so there is still room for your page count to change drastically in the drafting process. So don't let your current page count worry you.

    Writing Schedule

Thanks for your input. I really need to keep a notepad. I'm always trying to keep notes in my head. For now, I'm trying to do an hour a day six days a week (Wednesdays are just impossible for me so I rather not set my self up for frustration). We'll see how this goes.

    Writing Schedule

Newbie here (well, reading the forum for awhile but finally joined). I'm working on my first feature length screenplay. It has been a long process thus far: writing in bursts, getting hung up on certain spots, revisiting my structure and even revising Act 1 before getting out of Act 2. I have...
