Bought this Macbook Pro new in 2012 so I was very stunned to find out Resolve won't run on it. I own the BMC too, so the full version of Resolve came free. Ended up having to sell it. I don't think I'll like Speedgrade after looking into it, but Scratch looks interesting so far

I don't think my version of Lightroom does videos at full resolution, but I'll look into it. (edit: I guess it compresses video upon export, so that's no good for me) I had heard about Speedgrade but I couldn't remember the name. Thanks, I'll look into this as well.

This doesn't bother me because I would never upload my film to withoutabox because their online screener quality is complete crap. Much better off submitting a Blu-ray (or DVD if I have to) or better yet, a Vimeo link if the festival allows. The only thing that goes up in my withoutabox account...

This is a good point. My Macbook Pro isn't compatible with Resolve so I ended up buying the BMC and selling my Da Vinci software for about $600. Probably could have gotten a lot more if I held out longer. Not a bad deal though in my opinion.

I wouldn't overlook Blackmagic so quickly. You can get the pocket camera for $1000 and the image quality is leagues better than any DSLR, and you'd still have $1,500 left over. What are the the extra purchases you might ask? A battery and SD card, same as any DSLR. Then get yourself the nicest...

Oh I guess you are right. I have the BMC EF, so it's a little better than the Pocket camera, but I didn't realize the Production cam had the sensor. If only I still had the $5,000 I had to pay to get mine over a year ago :/

I'm not much of a camera guy so I'm going to throw this question out there... What makes these cameras so expensive? Why can't you have a camera with a full size sensor, ability to shoot RAW, good dynamic range, and a 2k (or more) image for, let's say $5,000?
