    archived-videos Cell Phone Monologue

I had the idea of getting a shot of birds scattering on the first gunshot, and then cutting to him running, but decided against it. The slow-mo was something I agonized over. I probably watched that over and over about 100 times at various speeds. I guess when in doubt I'm gonna have to...

Thanks, I think that's my first compliment on my writing, I'll take it. I'm getting lots of good responses about the acting. My wife (worlds toughest critic) was impressed with Robin. Thanks! I'm glad I came across your cell phone monologues, love the concept!

Hmm... good advice on the camera angles and close ups... I agree that would have made it better. I was intentionally vague in the script, as I plan on doing a few more of these with other characters that help fill in Mark's back story. The gun sound? Oddly enough, I couldn't for the life of...

Holy crap... how did I not catch this. Maybe I need more sleep. As I was doing the color grading I was going through the different options in Vegas and I was looking at it thinking "something else needs to be done, it looks a little washed out but this seems to be the best I can get it... I...

    On Set Stories

I was filming a music video for a video contest in the Boston Public Garden, and I was toting my gear around in a backpack. I had set my backpack out of one scene, and then I kept the actor in the same spot and moved to get a shot from a different angle, which left the backpack all by itself...

Thanks! All very good points. I mulled over the title at the beginning, and went about it several different ways... I didn't consider a simple white on black because I thought it might be washed out with the light through the trees. I also tried cutting without the fades and I liked it...

I love this concept from Sonnyboo, and I don't know if I'm doing it justice since his description says it combines the monologue with "stellar" camera work. I don't know if I'm there yet, but I'm gonna keep working at it. Anyway, when I read the concept of the cell phone monologue I fell in...

    Names for production company?

Ditto on that. MillieCat Productions comes from the name of my first cat that I formed an incredible bond with. When she passed away I felt compelled to create a tribute video from old video clips. That inspired me to get in to what I'm doing now.

Can you recommend a DSLR for under £1000/$1500

Ditto on this. I just got my hands on a used GH1 dirt cheap for my first DSLR. I hacked it and paired it with some old prime lenses and love it so far (although I've only done 1 video with it). I imagine the GH2/GH3 are probably even better.

Where do you hold your casting call?

Y'know, I never considered the difference between phone calls and dropping by in person. That might make all the difference in the world. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm glad I resurrected this thread. :)

Congrats! Related note, I love the idea of Cell Phone Monologues. I believe I said in another one of your threads way back at the beginning of the year that I was gonna do this, and I'm finally filming my first this Saturday. (It's taken me longer than planned due to some personal stuff, but...

Where do you hold your casting call?

I was surprised too. I was excited when I read the suggestion to use the library, since others have posted on here that they use the library... only to be met with resistance when I called. Talk about a buzz kill. I've thought about calling hotels with meeting rooms, but I'd rather save the...

Where do you hold your casting call?

I'm in North Attleboro, and I know we've got a pretty nice YMCA so I may check with them. Thanks for the suggestions!

Where do you hold your casting call?

I've just started making calls to local libraries and so far I've encountered reactions along these lines "Oh... I don't know about that... I don't think so." I've always been friendly, professional, and up front about what my intentions are and acknowledge that it's in a library so I...

    archived-videos Short: The Filmmaker

One thought I had about the sound was that once I had the volume dialed in where I wanted it based on the music there was a drop off when the dialogue kicked in... but this is a problem I have watching Hollywood features on Blu-ray too, so maybe it's just me... just throwing it out there though...

    archived-videos Gay Golf Instructors (Comedy)

Not sure what to say about this, other than it made me chuckle. Funny timing side note, I just filmed a real golf tutorial last week with my brother, a professional golf instructor... completely opposite end of the spectrum from your work... lol.

Here is my short film, "Everything Dissolves". Thoughts?

That was really well done, and I think any longer may have been too much. Just a nice build up to the ending.
