If you have your heart set on putting lobster sauce on a turd, go for it! ;) I promise you'll remember this decision for the rest of your life. Good luck, though. What is the average time investment for one to become proficient with After Effects? Do you know?

editing Advice on finding a good editor.

There is a high likelihood that your first short is going to suck ass. Edit it yourself and at least get something out of the experience. *Get Premiere Elements. You're still struggling with using a Canon T2i, never mind AE. This film will be released in 2035 at this rate. I'm just trying to...

editing Advice on finding a good editor.

You will learn a ton editing it yourself. This is not the project you want to hire an editor for. Editing yourself will teach you how to be a better director and what elements that are needed that you never thought of. Also, you can't really appreciate a good editor or tell them what you want...

    cinematography Getting the Framing Right

True, but a descriptive shot list is useful in making a storyboard. A storyboard artist that is familiar with move making is expensive, usually not in the budget for an indie film beyond stick figures and software that will only give you a rough idea. This is only what I've been discovering...

    cinematography Getting the Framing Right

I'd like to add that noobs tend not to shoot off a shot list. There should be a reason for every shot type in the scene thought out well in advance. Experimental shots come after the shot list is completed. I learned the hard way. ;)

One thing I hate about film festivals.

In your case, I stand corrected because you don't care. However, you don't speak for everyone and illegal downloading is illegal for a reason. You've chosen to justify it because it doesn't affect you personally. Wow, talk about ethics or lack thereof. No hard feelings; I'm just stating my...

Am I not bossy enough as director?

THAT won't be free and plan on getting yelled at. ;)

Am I not bossy enough as director?

Classic! With the exception of a film student working for free for an inexperienced director. It better be a short film or else a felony is in the making.

    Shooting Talk-Show at home

I think a Gene Rayburn mic would work well for a talk show. This subject reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. ;)

Am I not bossy enough as director?

As far as people being in the shot, are you at least doing a dry run of the scene so your camera person can scope for just that? Once you're rolling, it's enough of a challenge to keep everything in focus and framed properly. You just don't see it many times until after. Let me guess, a boom...

Good stuff, Steve. Some pro attention to audio will give it a whole new feel. Camera is fine, no worries.
