cinematography A quick question on camera equipment

What kind of camera equipment do you use the most and why? 60D, tripod, 64Gb card...basics to get the job done... What are some problems related to tripods and cranes? if you have the wrong tripod you are going to hate your life while on set...for example using a tripod without a head is all...

What do you wish all productions did?

Number one thing I like seeing...money in my hand and the end of the day... Number two....someone who takes it upon themselves to bring the camera guys water every now and then...we can't be telling the director to wait while we go get a drink...

    Canon EOS C100

I would say skip the C100...for the same price you could get a 1D C which shoots 4K at MJPEG which is a compressed 4K but still looks quite nice....

Canon 7D, t2i, t3i - Which looks the most cinematic with the basic lens?

Whenever I get asked why I chose the 60D over the 7D one of the explanations I give is that the 7D is more in my opinion a sports/wildlife photography camera that has video capabilities while the 60D is more focused on the DSLR filmmaker. yeah about that onboard mic...my iPhone gets better...

How much would you charge, on average, for a project?

this...after my first event I never wanted to do it again. It wasnt because I wasnt capable it was more that I was not having any fun doing it. For a friend it will always be hard to give a price because if it is a friend you are already aware of their finances or at least have a good idea but...

    DSLR Concert Filming?

In my experience one camera is not the way to go...especially if you are shooting with a T2i... Last concert/dance event I shot with DSLRs I had a 7D, 60D and a 5Dm2 and staggered the recording start times to be able to compensate for the 12min limit....

I like to think of this as a rule of thumb... If they are paying then the person that owns the rights to the project owns the rights to the photos. This is why contracts are so important, this way it is made clear who owns what and how the images can be used. Even if I have been paid for the...

cinematography Film making possibilities with high end DSLR:s ??

you wont find many big name movies that were shot on DSLRs, especially not the T2i, however, you will find some features that used the 7D for B-footage. Kevin Smith used a 7D for B while shooting Red State and incorporated it into the RED footage nicely. This was shot entirely on a 7D...

cinematography Am I crazy to shoot SD?

Shooting in HD gives you more options...you can downgrade from HD to SD but upscaling from SD to HD is never pretty. If you want a more mudded look you can place filters in post that could do the effect or as someone else said...if you are that worried about the makeup artist then maybe it...

cinematography Getting around the 12 minute DSLR limit

As someone else has mentioned, the 12min limit is more of a tax issue than anything else, though the newer DSLRs are coming out with 29.59 minute limits. If you are not shooting events such as a concert or play then there is really no reason to be going to the 12min limit. The only way around...
