What's the Shortest a Feature Can be For Distribs?

Most distributors I've talked to request 80 min. as the minimum. It took a lot of finagling to get our 78 min. feature licensed.

    Why Choose HD?

Here is a simple question to ask yourself: "Do I want to sell my film to a distributor or tv network?" If the answer is yes then shoot HD. If you find HD too "clean" for your film you can apply filters in post and degrade it a bit. If you ultimately go with HD I'd suggest finding a camera...

    Funding

I sold my first feature that was budgeted at $15,000. As long as you have a good story and decent production value it's very obtainable. Oh... and directorik's breakdown is accurate so take note!

    Self distribution

CreateSpace is indeed owned by Amazon. What I use them for is for my shorts that I generally have online for free. I put together a nice DVD package (higher quality than streaming over the Inernet) with a few extra perks and charge a nominal fee. The main reason is it is a LOT easier to get...

    Funding

DV is quickly fading out with HD televisions and cameras coming down in price. It's best to shoot HD if at all possible.

    archived-videos The Irresponsible Mrs. Pennywise

"The Irresponsible Mrs. Pennywise" is complete and on it's way to the UK as well as four other festivals here in the states. While it hasn't officially been released yet on the production companies site (I'm waiting until after it's premiere in Chicago on Thurs.) I thought I'd let those...

I went to Columbia College Chicago and they take pretty much everyone. Or at least they did ten years ago.

"The Irresponsible Mrs. Pennywise" Production Complete

Hi everyone. I've been absent lately due to production on a new short film, "The Irresponsible Mrs. Pennywise". Unlike "The Quiet Darkness" and "The Bottom Down" we took a little more time for production (two days as opposed to one) and shot in HD with 35mm lenses. I have about a week to edit...

    converting DV-PAL TO NTSC

I'm not sure how to do it in DSP but if you have that then I assume you have FCP. There is a wonderful plugin I use called Standards Conversion by Nattress. It's $100 but worth every penny. You can easily convert between multiple formats including PAL to NTSC, vice versa and more. Their link...

Pulldown.exe - Safe place to Download? & How to use it?

I have a Mac, not a PC, but if memory serves from my old PC days you should be able to scan that file BEFORE opening it to verify nothing malice is included.

    Video assist can anyone define?

It's usually not that complicated. You'll be stationed in the "video village" which is where a television and some sort of recording device are set up, either a VCR or DVD burner. You're job is to press RECORD on the VCR or DVD burner when there is a take and keep a log. If the director or...

    OMG Indy 4 is AMAZING!!!!

Had this film been named The Mummy and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I would have been much more forgiving. The Mummy was obviously an attempt to update Indiana Jones for the new "dumbed down" generation. While the original Indy trilogy isn't without faults there was a line it didn't cross...

    OMG Indy 4 is AMAZING!!!!

Man... I must be one of a handful of people that didn't like this movie. It was terrible. Utterly terrible. In the first twenty minutes it seemed like everyone was struggling to get a rhythm. It was obvious that virtually everything was shot on sound stages in front of green screens. Karen...

    Letters of Intent

As directorik said it's unusual for an actors manager to be asking for one. The only thing I can think of is that he wants a letter of intent from financiers showing you have backing. As for talking directly with the actor... good luck. Unless you know them personally or have a friend that...

    editing !@#*$%!!!

I've never heard of FCP just quitting. Do you have extra programs running that can be turned off such as Safari, Mail, iCal, etc? How much memory does your system have? If you're running FCP with the minimum requirements maybe you're running out of memory? I'd recommend going to Apple's...

    Direct Submission To NetFlix?

Generally Netflix requires submissions in bulk from producers. They won't do a single film but if a producer has, say, 12 or 13 then they're more likely to accept.

    Get your movie on imdb?

Usually you need to reference either a festival its played at or if your film has been released on DVD a URL to a known retail store such as Amazon. They usually won't list anything based solely on your word unless you are well established.
