    Deferred compensation contract

deferred payment is the biggest scam in the industry. i know of no other business where it is used, except sales (and at least there is a chance of making money in sales). directorik's answer covers it perfectly. i am a professional and expected to be treated like one and anyone offering me...

How do you convey this to your DP?

"block out the shot and watch the rehearsals on the monitor" that is the time you tell the dp what you need in the shot and you rehearse until you get it right.

How do you convey this to your DP?

hi harmonica, filmmaking is a time consuming process as you have discovered. you need to schedule lots more time than you think you need especially when you are doing everything yourself. time always seems to run 3 times faster on a shoot. find an experienced dp/operator. someone you can have...

Am I not bossy enough as director?

you can be a fair dictator you dont have to be nasty. you dont have to be unpleasant to your crew to motivate them. on the shoot before you roll the camera when everybody is organised give a short speech telling them how proud you are to have them there, what you want to achieve for the day...

Am I not bossy enough as director?

have to agree with alcove audio.....his is sage advice. you have to remember real filmaking is a dictatorship not a democracy. the director is in charge, the dop is his second in command but both bow to the power of the first assistant director the director and dop should have worked out...

    lighting Outdoor Lighting

you will need hmi's to do any effective lighting outside, which in involves generators .not sure of your budget but this will eat up a lot of it. shoot the wides with natural light and use the 800 watt lights for the close ups. but will still involve a genny. to change the colour temp of...

    My Channel deserves exposure

hi mirman had a look at your site and watched dreams and still wondering what happened. you have to tell a story. that is what filmmakers are...storytellers. you watch commercials everyday and they are just stories. they have conflict, a begining a middle and an end and they do it in 30 to 60...

    Recommended car mount

please tell me you are not considering gaffa taping a camera to a car. just because it worked does not mean it is a good idea. good film making means planning for a worst case scenario. imagine if you will the gaffa coming unstuck at speed, you now have a camera hanging by the video lead...

    lighting My light went boom!

no worries mate, when you do change the bulb remember not to touch the glass with your fingers the oil on your hand can create a hot spot causing the lamp to fail...use a paper towel, tissue, cloth etc to hold it when inserting i always unplug and put the plug in my pocket.... then i know it...

    lighting My light went boom!

hi dvd guy, sounds like you blew a bulb which triggered the fuse to blow check out the fuse box and reset the breaker to re power the circuit. it is not uncommon for the bulbs to blow considering the temperature they run at and the length of time they are on, you should always have a few...
