Are audiences skeptical in believing in youth criminal characters?

Here's the thing Harmonica, There ARE 21 year old hitmen. There might even be 16 year old hired assassins in some part of the world. HOWEVER, most of the short films that students make have young people in the cast so a 21 year old hitman in a short film will look like a "student" actor not a...

Options To Find Additional Funds For Completing My Film

Actually regarding the George Lucas example, I would consider him to be the "artist" in the equation because Star Wars was his idea, his passion so it makes sense he would risk everythng for it. That being said there are business people that will help you with your vision. They are just very...

What acting skills or qualities do YOU look for?

Improv skills are big with me now because I realize how many scenes change because of location or technical problems. Actors have to be able to go with the flow and be effective even without rehearsal.

Options To Find Additional Funds For Completing My Film

Excellent point here. Anytime I studied Business or Economics there was always that ole "Supply and Demand" stuff. You have to ask yourself what kind of smart business person is attracted to a business with a huge supply and and tiny demand in the market. Sorry if that sounds negative. Best of luck.

Picking the Role for the Actors

The casting website I used forced every performer to submit for a particular role. However, I did ask some actors to read for a different role then they submitted for. Everyone I asked agreed. I can't imagine having actors just submit randomly. But then again it probably depends on what you are...

When should you start promoting your independent film?

No offense, but I looked at your website. Having an image of an "Oscar" Statue on an indie film site is probably worse than spamming. It definately makes you a target of harsh critism. Sorry about that. Just my humble opinion ;)

    Using curse words

It made over 49 million in 1987 but if they would have taken that scene out just think of what they could have made. http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=planestrainsandautomobiles.htm When you have a non-F-bomb movie that makes 50 million+ (there are several of course) you can tell...

Humm. Interesting. In my humble opinion if reading a book destroys your creativity, then how creative are you really? ;)

How do I start out as a Director?

Hummm. Let me see if I understand the purpose of this forum. So we should say mean things to the noobs to weed them out so they don't spend their family borrowed money? Then the world of film will be better and we won't have to watch bad movies. What was I thinking coming on this forum for...

How do I start out as a Director?

"Weeding out the wannabe filmmakers?" That's like trying to clear all the cars off the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles. Good luck on that!

    Using curse words

In my humble opinion asking "do you have any experience at selling scripts?" is not inappropriate. If you asked me "Have you sold a script or movie?" I would answer no. It's interesting to hear what experiences others have. If you give advice or even opinion it's perfectly valid for someone to...

That's a good question for all of IT. Anyone sold a script? Please share your story. Sorry, I don't have one.

    Using curse words

Personally, I let the characters decide if they should curse or not. As a writer it's none of my business what they say or do, it's up to them. If they become "Real" or "Live" words will come out of their mouths as if written magically. When you don't know what a character will say or do next...

sales-options Does selling your script online really work?

inktip.com claims to have a bunch of movies made from contacts made on the site. I don't know if it's true. Stats are at the bottom of the page on http://inktip.com/

How to become a script agent?

I worked for an entertainment management company in the 90's Most people started as some type of assistant for super low pay. Then like maybe $400 a week I think (In Los Angeles, rent is usually $1000 so you have maybe $600 left for food gas insurance bills) Hours were 12-14 a day. But that...

Filming with a Treatment but no Script?

The French film Irreversible http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290673/ was filmed with only a treatment. HOWEVER, that being said the director Gaspar Noé is brilliant at doing that type of thing. So he's proved you can film with a treatment, but it does help to have actors like Vincent Cassel...
