Hulu - Indie friend or foe?

Hey Win, Great question! I emailed Hulu for submission requirements. However, I'm guessing you have to be distributed by an established company to get on Hulu. Strictly Sexual was represented by Shoreline and distributed by Arts Alliance as noted on imdbpro. I'm curious to see what response...

    Directors: What are your goals?

I can add working with friends is so much better than working with strangers. I've done both. However, the key here is making friends with extremely talented hardworking dedicated people. ;)

    Directors: What are your goals?

In most goal setting methods you begin with the end in mind. So this is for me personally (others will disagree of course) Main Obective -> create the best film possible ( believable, funny scary, sad, dramatic thrilling whatever it's supposed to do. Sub Goals in order of importance… 1. Have an...

    Too early for casting?

I began casting February 26, 2010 for a project I filmed October 2, 2010 The entire original cast stayed on to the end of the shoot. I did replace one of the leads because of some differences that could not be resolved. Everyone said people will drop off the project if you cast them that early...

    Future professions

If you become a doctor, let me know who you are so I don't have you doing my heart surgery when I'm old. I don't think I want to be operated on by someone thinking about films! Maybe pick a high earning profession where you don't have to be 100% focused or someone dies. ;) Just a thought

    Short Prequel Before a Feature?

Frankly, I wish I would have done it your way. It's good to build your team BEFORE doing a feature! Great idea!

    The Woes of Finding Investors.

I think it's really unwise to compare ourselves to Sam Raimi and the Coen Brothers or maybe even Kevin Smith. That was the 1980's and 1990's. That was a whole different world before internet and video stores actually existed. You could say "Our movie will sell in video stores or small theaters...

When's the time to tackle a feature?

Ask yourself "When am I ready to be broke, humiliated, stabbed in the back, enraged, frustrated and depressed to a dangerous level." Just kidding  Frankly, you are not ready to do anything until after you actually do it once. So get the best info you can, plan, plan, plan. And give it...

    screenplays where nothing really happens

I believe the director for you to study closely is Thomas McCarthy; The Station Agent, The Visitor, Win Win. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0565336/#Director His films are highly engrossing yet there's little cinematic "action" or "events" the closest he comes to action scenes are High School...

sales-options Best way to sell a script?

I agree 100% his parents being doctors didn't effect Sixth Sense. HOWEVER, as you have stated it was his 3rd film. I would say thinking the first script you sell is going to have Bruce Willis in it is a bit unrealistic. Is it possible, well anything's possible. It just is extremely unlikely.

I have give a shout out for Richard Jenkins whose masterfully subtle performance in The Visitor earned an Oscar nomination. Yet most people still don't know his name! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0857191/

sales-options Best way to sell a script?

His parents were BOTH doctors so they probably weren't poor! Here's the imdbpro BIO… Biography Born in India but raised in the posh suburban Penn Valley area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, M. Night Shyamalan is the son of two doctors. His passion for filmmaking began when he was given a...

sales-options Best way to sell a script?

I feel like the "Golden Age" of the Original Screenplay (written for the Screen) was in the 1970's and 1980's with blockbuster films like; Star Wars, Rocky, Terminator, Raiders of the Lost Ark... Today, even an established director probably has to fight to get an original idea a big budget. It...

sales-options Best way to sell a script?

Just to add to what MDM is saying. When I worked in entertainment management. A resume with work experience was always sent with the script submitted to a producer/company. It mattered what a writer did before almost more than the script itself. Most of the money making movies today are based...
