Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

Thank you Nick for the valuable info. The people I've talked to recently in distribution say if you have no names in your movie you need a ton of promotion or advertising to get ANY distribution (other then self-distributing obviously) It seems like even with a the right genre when you have a...

    Brand Logo and Festivals

Looks like there's a big section on the side of the bus with no Dog logo on it. Shouldn't be hard to film around it!

    Brand Logo and Festivals

I agree completely, 100%. Yes, trademark issues should be avoided like the plague! My only point was some issues can be recovered from. Like surviving a gunshot wound, you can but you want to avoid it obviously. ;)

I always imagine I'm in the desert selling a bucket of sand. "Hey want to buy my sand, it's special?" "Nahh. We are making our own sand right now."

    Dissapointing...

Good answer. However, what EXACTLY does -> "work to get it to the next level" mean. Is it get you money to make the short into a feature? Do you want someone who can raise $250K to 5 million dollars to see your film and decide that's the next thing they will produce? (sounds good to me too ;)

    Magical Realism-Romance Screenplay

SFS is totally on the money here! Think of screenplay format as a stop sign to allow traffic to flow correctly and avoid crashes. Even if you are directing the material yourself you need to have correct format if you want the other professionals involved to respect the work. It doesn't help to...

    Brand Logo and Festivals

Regarding lawsuits: I spoke with an entertainment lawyer who said one of his clients was sued for an actor in his film singing lyrics to a famous song. The filmmaker had to pay a $1,000 licensing fee. But after that the issue was entirely resolved. No big deal. So I guess even in cases where a...

    Filming 1st movie

This summer is in one month (June) ! You are probably not ready to make a 75 page movie. You've written one script. You should at least write 3, I would say and give yourself a chance to develop your style. I started casting 8 months before filming (you don't have to do that obviously) If...

    Comedy Feature Available

Quick feedback on log line… "Kafkaesque hell ride through an absurdist landscape of self-discovery and divine madness." Sounds a bit murky. maybe "Kafkaesque hell ride through… 1. the New York Fashion Scene 2. the Red Light District of _____, 3. The European Underworld 4. A fantasy world…...

Alternative ways to show your movie?

Ironically Gonzo, I produced a feature several years before I directed one. Even as a "producer" to become the "distributor" is taxing. You want to "produce" a movie then go on to your next project. Renting a bunch or theaters/venues and buying ads to promote screenings seems like a good way to...

Alternative ways to show your movie?

I'm totally with Gonzo on this one! It seems like if you're spending all this time and money pushing your last project you don't have anything left for your next movie. I've thought about "four walling" it before but then rational thought takes over and I realize the people that own theaters and...
