If we research further we find Chris N's movie did $192,000 internationally http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/1999/00161.php I'd jump for joy if my movie does that internationally !!! 8-)

Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

Sounds like a "snore-fest." Next time I go to a festival I'll remember to bring a nook or iPod to give me something to do while the boring films are playing. Or I could bring a pillow and take a nap :)

Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

I was told technically 84 minutes + is feature length. I believe around 75 minutes is accepted. If your feature has 60 minutes of story then it needs re-written well before you film it!

Does actor get paid for table reading and rehearsals?

BEFORE ALWAYS BEFORE. If they walk off they can forbid you from using their footage. Hardly any actor would do that, but who knows. Some people are crazy.

Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

Great point the horror audience is so much more forgiving! My theory is because a bad horror film turns into a comedy like Plan 9 From Outer Space http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052077/ But bad comedy or drama just turns into boredom. I admit renting a few low budget horror films in the past just...

Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

I agree also. I know from personal experience humor is subjective. A monster jumping out of the darkness will shock most people. Comedy is probably the hardest genre to pull off. So definately easier to do horror film than a comedy. Of course, to make a film that stands out from the 10,000...

Is it me or do a lot of indie films in festivals feel kind of empty?

It's simple Big Budget Hollywood films fill the empty parts of a film with… 1. Music Video montage 2. Car chases 3. Action scene 4. Glorious Special Effects Indie films don't have the budget for this, so they have "empty" If a 90 minute film has 45 minutes of plot, it needed to be re-written...

Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

I have to agree that usually the problem with low budget film is bad writing and bad acting. That's not going to work in a horror film or comedy. An interesting question is if I was a stand-up comic who has ZERO interest in horror films, should I go and make a low budget horror film even...

Top Tips: Profiting From A Feature Film

Actually most low budget horror films end up being "accidental" comedies because they are so poorly written. ;) Here's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082748/

Total newbie (12 yr old) film. Open to criticism

GREAT WORK Chris! Now I expect to see some festival wins by the time you are 14! If you get an Academy Awards Nominaion by age 23 you will be the youngest beating John Singleton age 24. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_and_youngest_Academy_Award_winners_and_nominees Best of luck
