    Final Cut refresher course help?

I may have to take a crash course in Final Cut in a couple of weeks, and I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions on a book or something to get. I am very familiar with all the Adobe Products and I haven’t used FC in at least 4 years and even then it was an older version. Any...

    shooting script

That’s a great idea on the storyboard! I’m going to try that on my next shoot. I’ve tried doing the floor plans, I found it was hard to not end up with scribble using paper and pencil. I’m usually pretty good with placing things in my head, but if I’m concerned about the scene I’ll sketch it...

    shooting script

Most of the time, in features with full staff, the 1st AD takes the spec script and notates scene numbers, camera direction from the Director’s notes, transitions, special effects, and notes. At that point the script is locked and any new scenes are inserted with special scene numbers and...

    A good laptop?

I have an HP pavilion ZT 1100 series, I upgraded the ram to the max (1GB) and got an external 120GB HD from Fantom Drives and it works great. I got it 2 years ago from Circuit City and run all the Adobe programs. Just get the highest-powered processor you can find, and the computer that can...

    another probable discussed question

Personally, I do a lot of interviews and live setups where you just can’t do multiple takes. I usually use a 2 camera setup, but I prefer a 3 camera setup. I’ll have one be the master, and one on close-ups for both subjects. It takes more syncronization and color correction in post, but I get...

    Laptop V Desktop

Well, right now, I use a PC laptop, but my next purchase will be a Mac desktop dedicated system. I voted with the one I currently use.

In the market for a lightmeter, any suggestions?

I recommend the Sekonic Multimaster L-408. You can see my review of it here: http://cinefuse.com/dir/equipment.php?review_id=15&category_name=Lights&equipment_name=Sekonic%20Multimaster%20L-408

    War Movie

I think that could work for the mountains around some of the former Russian states. Lots of fighting has been done there. You can’t base this on latitude. North America is much colder than Western Europe. The Mediterranean is on the same latitude as Delaware, but Delaware is nothing like the...

Investor, & Distribution advice for a newbie

$30 per DVD is a really high cost per unit fee. How many are you looking to sell? If you’re going to a wholesaler you’re talking about thousands of units. Go to http://www.megalodon.com, they have the best prices I’ve seen, plus they have screenprinted DVD faces, full color packaging, and...

    i mac laptop

Well the computer is always useful on the set to have for word processing and keeping up with documents like the day of days, call sheets, and such. I’m not a mac user yet, so I can’t speak on it’s editing capability, but a laptop is probably not going to have a dual processor like a desktop...

    Royalty free sound effects

Look for “free use” in a search. Exclude “buyout” or “trial” in the search for best results. I’d send you my favorites, but my hard drive at home crashed the other night and I have to send it in for service. And you will have to do a lot of searching to get something similar to what you want...

    importing to premiere

Like I said it could be so many things. Do you have the 3d turned on? Check the Z position and make sure it’s at 0. Also make sure the scale is at 100%. You could be exporting the wrong size too, like Zensteve said. I like his advice on changing the background color also, if you export and...

A question regarding Adobe After Affects

Yeah, Premiere has a title program, but I don’t like it. I have so much more control over the titles in the AE environment. Also, at least with the Adobe programs, you can import the Premiere project into AE and then export the entire video in one step, so there is no importing and exporting.

    Wire removal and background plates

I’ve never done this, I’m just throwing out ideas. In AE, if it’s on chroma green, you could motion track a chroma block over the wires (like pixelating a face). You’d probably have to set keyframes every frame, but that would isolate the subject against the green, and then you could just key...

    importing to premiere

Let us know how it goes, there may be some other things to check out, but it could be several things causing the problem. The first thing I’d check is the project settings in Premiere. If you have the project opened under DV-NTSC (either format), or one of the NTSC video for computers...
