Welcome to the site. :) The best ever, hey? Well, that is somewhat ambitious. All the best with your dreams. What sort of projects are you working on? *Determined. ;)

Why are cops such drama queens in movies?

 Do you really think touring a police station and watching how officers behave on tv with a camera in their face is going to give you an accurate picture of what life is really like for a police officer?? And besides, the hot-headed, flying-off-the-handle cop is only a staple character...

    RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

He was also in one of the funniest films ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmA-WSNhmRQ

    RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

I think I read his part had been "substantially filmed" already, so I guess they'll use what they've got. Or they could go Ed Wood style and get someone with the right build to cover their face and shuffle around silently.

    RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

Oh wow, that sucks. He really was a terrific actor. I just watched him in "Along Came Polly" the other night, he was hilarious in that. Almost Famous, Magnolia, Capote, The Master, Doubt...so many great roles. I first saw him in a zombie comedy from yesteryear, "My Boyfriends Back". He played...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Perhaps so, but wasn't 'Back to the Future' made as a stand alone movie and the sequels shot back to back? And they were all great IMO. I haven't seen the Matrix sequels since they came out. I'm tempted to go back and watch them but I have a feeling I'll regret it. Might just follow your lead...

What do YOU think makes a movie interesting

Some of these answers remind me of the old Godard quote; "All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun.” Start with that and see where the story leads you. ;)

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I just saw it last night and I agree. It was always going to be that awkward middle part of the trilogy, but it definitely got me excited for the finale. About half way through I was starting to think it was a bit convoluted and clunky but it gathered steam towards the end (I guess once they...

    Superbowl XLVIII

Wow that's some serious money. Maybe I'll start a kickstarter campaign for my next film; "Dear investors, I'm looking to raise $650,000 for a 5 second Superbowl ad. Please help" I'm hanging out to see a Seinfeld reunion at halftime...

Got a spare 15 minutes to learn some history?

You should check out the recent TV series "The Story of Film". The first episode in particular about how the medium of film came about and some of the really early stuff. Actually the whole series is great. There were films well before 1910 in Europe, perhaps you found the first Hollywood...

    Tarantino very, very depressed :(

Hear, hear. :D I'm hoping it goes nationwide in the States too, because then Australia might follow suit. We won't do shit until somebody else does it first. In fact almost all films are better after smoking weed, maybe there's a way to boost cinema attendances there??? New theatres...

scene where a baby drowns :(

I believe there's a similar scene in "A Beautiful Mind", which Ron Howard discusses on the DVD. I think they had the baby in the bath and added the water in post or something. Might be helpful.

    Overused techniques?

I agree. It's just something I never really have been able to get into. Films about assassins and hitmen are also done to death, IMO. A lot of student films seem fixated on this concept. I blame Pulp Fiction.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I love Don Bluth's animations, particularly the late 80's stuff. I wish he would make some more films.

Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (1964) -- 1/5 As bad as you'd think, but strangely enjoyable. Watch it if you want a laugh. Made with a budget of $200,000 apparently, hard to see exactly where the money went though. But any film that manages to cram in martians, Santa Claus, a robot and a...
