    archived-videos Wedding Highlights - Critic !

Hey everyone, I worked on my first wedding. I'm nearly done with the highlights and would like you to critic the edit (bad shots, bad editing, anything) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR74T6OpNmc Thanks !

Shooting bores my actors. How do I lighten up the atmopshere?

Use the actors as production assistants and grip. They won't stay idle.

    Bl@@dy musicians - just venting...

I'm curious if it's her first music video. Why would you want a music video if you can't stand seeing yourself on a screen ? Good luck dude. But nobody said she needs to be on the video. Shoot other stuff. And here I was thinking of inviting a client in to the edit room. Now I know better than...

First Magic Lantern RAW Video from the Canon T3i/600D!

I don't understand this card limit. The hacked GH2 outputs a shitload of data and it also uses SDHC cards.

Shooting bores my actors. How do I lighten up the atmopshere?

Shoot faster. Have foot on set. Include them in the decision-making process. Have a very funny person on set to entertain them ? But seriously, shoot faster. Everything you be ready to shoot when the actors arrive and setting up scenes should take a few minutes.

editing Professional Colorist -- How Much $?

FYI, it's "c'est". It's a contraction of "ce" (that) and "est"(is). The apostrophe is there because the word "ce" has to be truncated of its "e" because "est" also starts with "e" and it sounds horrible if you prononce both "e"s.

I think he built his own camera-helicopter.

cinematography Writing directly to an SSD

Yes, trough the HDMI output. You'll need to buy a nifty monitor that encodes the footage to ProRes and records it directly on a HDD or SSD. It's called Atomos Ninja. I don't know if there are other ways but this one is expensive.

    That old Camera Question

You can do directly in programs tailored for "retouching" video, like After Effects. If you really want to do it in Photoshop, you can convert the video to a bunch of pictures (TIFF I think) and go through them one by one. Also, I'd strongly advise to find yourself an editor/colorist to do...

cinematography Charging Camera Batteries on Set

You either have a power source or you don't. You can have a generator. You can use some photovoltaic thing. Maybe use the car's battery. Depending on how long you're staying, sometimes the best solution is simply to buy another pair of batteries.

Opinions please! GH2 (hacked), or GH3 for double the cost?

The GH2 has a very high bitrate. You can try all day, you won't get the same image quality with a Rebel. That doesn't mean you can get nice footage from a Rebel. Go with a GH2. I'll do that as soon as I get the opportunity to update the whole workflow.

    Film language

I'm thinking about my feature debut and I wondered the same question. What I hate in movies is when everybody speaks a langage they are not supposed to speak. Arab terrorist speaking english with his Arab colleague in an Arabe country (happens every single time, like in lost). Asian guy...

    Handling the Pressure

You can believe whatever you want. But whoever you are, your first productions are bound to be crappy because you'll run into problems for the first time ever and you'll have no experience on how to handle them. The very first time I took people to shoot something, the Sound part went very...

    Handling the Pressure

I would expect my first film to be utter crap and try not to involve as less people as possible. I don't want people to see me failing and making mistakes (which will happen, even more on a first shoot). Have you shown that little teaser to these people ? If yes, they know exactly what they're...
