    DIY "Anamorphic Lens Flares"

Ha ha! ;) Glad it may be of use to you in your upcoming feature.

Here are a few test pics. ...with a 2.35:1 crop, of course. ;)

    DIY "Anamorphic Lens Flares"

Here are a couple of pics showing how simple the filter really is. It's composed of a piece of heavy fishing line attached through two holes drilled into a 49-to-58mm step-up adapter. (The lens shown, a Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4, has a 49mm filter thread.)

    DIY "Anamorphic Lens Flares"

Zensteve: In hindsight, I'm not totally sure why I put "obscured". Heh heh. Just meant it was out of focus or blurred. :) I'm familiar with some of the star filters. Used to have an array of old Cokin filters and the holder thing that allows them to be stacked. Though it's been quite a...

    DIY "Anamorphic Lens Flares"

The filament doesn't have to be aligned to match the light location (I think I'm understanding that correctly. Lemme know otherwise.) In this case, the line is simply stretched vertically across the center of the lens. You can also run it horizontally for vertical streaks. A thicker line...

    DIY "Anamorphic Lens Flares"

Disclaimer: I'm not the biggest fan of excessive lens flares; I find flares-for-the-sake-of-it sorta gimmicky. But I do have an upcoming project where the wide horizontal flare/streak (similar to that present in anamorphic lenses) is desired, so I started looking into the various filters...

    cinematography motion/camera tracking?

I have SynthEyes and it's incredible at camera matching / object tracking. Though not free, it is affordable compared to others considering the feature set and capability. Though why not give Voodoo another look? You'll just have to convert your video file to a TGA sequence before tracking...

    Documentary + "Regular Movie"?

I know this was posted some time ago, but I wanted to bring it up, considering I'm planning to do something similar in an upcoming sci-fi mockumentary film I'm working on. In studying District 9, where documentary style filmmaking is mixed with a traditional cinematic approach, I started giving...

    Need help with lens

I can also vouch for the Canon 50mm f/1.8. Affordable lens, cheap plastic body, but the glass is good. However, keep in mind the crop factor on those cams. A 50mm will feel a bit telephoto. Once I got a 30mm, I kept it on most of the time.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Norwegian Ninja (2010) - 7/10 One of those "out there" films that's obviously not for everyone. The story can be hard to follow in places but I found it enjoyable overall due to the absurd narrative and humorous dialog, as well as the blatant use of practical/miniature effects.

archived-videos WHISKEY GLASS EYE - This Is My Response

Good work, man! It genuinely felt like a lot of ground was covered, in terms of their relationship. Due to the sheer amount of various "scenes" or moments, as well as how you'd throw in the phone/camcorder clips, etc. And, as already mentioned, you did a great job communicating a story with...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

HA HA HA! Well it IS mostly comedic. But, yeah... LOL! OR... it could be along the same lines, just in a not-so-distant location. Something after the credits.

    Hickory Never Bleeds

Ha ha! Good stuff, guys. Thank you all for the steady encouragement! The goat thing is pretty much a definite in my mind. LOL! The distant smoke plume is a good idea. I'd like to play a fairly loud/realistic explosion for the talent to react to (instead of the standard vocal "bang" or...

    White Room Effect

j_thompson: They are basically the same principle, as Cracker Funk points out. Though nice, even lighting for greenscreen with minimal spill on the talent may be a tad more tricky. I'd say go for the all-white room, if possible. You wouldn't have to worry about adding a white "light wrap" to...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

Yeah, I gotta say... Flicker's unexpected-exploding-goat idea is pretty clever. The more I think about it, the more I like it. And it would be easy to implement, being off screen and all. LOL! Now to decide if it should be a running gag, or - as Cracker Funk suggested - a more subtle...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

Ha ha! Thanks for the comments, guys! :) Flicker: I recently found my two old Jaw Harps, AND purchased an old bass harmonica. Those and the banjo will make up the primary ingredients of my soundtrack. :) Nothing fancy, mind you... But YEAH... having a little jaw harp pluck at the end...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

Thank you! I give some rough notes (ie. "This is basically what's going on...") and might offer some example dialog, but it's mostly ad-lib. He came out of nowhere with that line. It was one of those fun moments where I'm trying not to snicker as he's talking.
