    Hickory Never Bleeds

Took a break recently to work on some of the "fun stuff" associated with the film. One of the more enjoyable parts for me is designing the poster. Here's the one I'm currently leaning toward having printed: This is the first design: A bit of background on why I picked the first over the...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

I wanted to give an update on the progress of Hickory Never Bleeds... As of right now, I've got close to a finished hour of the movie put together. (Going for 1:30) It's kinda hard to believe... that I'm getting close to completion on a feature-length film. Having never really put out a...

    "Found footage" animation?

Thanks, Josh! Might just have to look into those! :)

    "Found footage" animation?

Right, I agree. But I'm really referring to the overall style or approach. For instance, the animated film "Surf's Up" was done in documentary style in terms of how the characters were aware of a camera being present. This would be what initially seems like random or mundane raw "footage"...

    "Found footage" animation?

Has anyone ever seen - or does anyone know of - an animated "found footage" movie? I know there are quite a few movies in this genre dating back 30+ years, but to my knowledge they are all live-action. Anyhow, I had an idea for an animated short that would employ this style and it got me...

cinematography Is this photographers opinion on shooting correct?

When it comes to digital, I would rather underexpose than overexpose. You can recover detail in shadows, but once you've got blown-out white areas, that info is gone.

    Bored of DSLR's....

For standard DSLR videogarphy it's all electronic shutter (held open initially, then stays that way while you record)... so mechanical shutter failure isn't really an issue unless you were using a DSLR for stop-motion or otherwise heavy/continuous picture-taking. EDIT: ItDonnedOnMe beat me to...

    Open source after effects alternative?

Wax is another alternative. Obviously not as robust as AE, but it's free... http://www.debugmode.com/wax/

Thanks, guys! Zensteve: The light-painting bits (with the letters spelled out in the dark) were done using still pictures. With the camera on a tripod in a dark location, I'd hold the shutter open (bulb exposure) and briefly flash a light at the subjects so they'd show up in the camera. Then...

Thanks, Ernest! Yeah... the slow build-up was actually my main concern about doing a video for this track. I didn't upload this one to Vimeo. May get around to doing that, as the quality is much better.

Here's a music video I completed toward the end of last year for a great bunch of guys from Florida. It involved light painting, timelapse, green screen and camera-matching. Had a lot of fun with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3HO7XqPW5A

    No ideas...

One thing I've been guilty of in the past is sitting around, waiting for inspiration to strike. But what I've found that actually works is to write... ANYTHING. Force yourself to freewrite. Let it flow, keep it child-like, don't censor your ideas, and get it on paper. (There's a difference...

    what mount are these ?

My advice would be to look for something faster, and avoid FD mounts. You can usually get really decent and reasonably-priced vintage f/1.8 or even f/1.4 50mm primes in M42 mount on eBay. Though if the ones pictured are selling cheap, it doesn't hurt to have some extra lenses for particular...
