    Sun And Sand Festival

My film will be showing at the Sun and Sand festival on Saturday, 11/10. (This one's less than an hour's drive from here, so I had to submit.) Communication between festival and filmmakers is a bit lacking, but it's their first year. Hopefully they get things ironed out in the future. It's...

archived-videos "Defense Training" (clip from Hickory Never Bleeds)

Ha! Thanks! It'll still be a few months, but I hope to have some sort of newfangled online streaming technology going. :) Glad you like it! We actually talk that way around here. :)

archived-videos "Defense Training" (clip from Hickory Never Bleeds)

Thanks, guys! :D Thanks, Steve! That little sequence is actually the only part shot in Super8. (I wanted to do more, but couldn't justify the cost.) There's also a small bit shot on VHS, but most of the film was shot on a Canon 7D.

archived-videos "Defense Training" (clip from Hickory Never Bleeds)

Here's a training montage from my sci-fi mockumentary film, Hickory Never Bleeds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AapXdFSAw8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AapXdFSAw8 Shot on a Bauer C1 Super8 camera. Film processing + HD scanning by Pro8mm. Ending shot on a Canon 7D. The song "We're Not...

    Festival Exhibition Formats

Sundance accepts DCP and HDCAM in addition to 35mm. I just submitted my feature to a few places. Most Submission copies were mailed on DVD, though I sent BluRay Submission copies to a couple of the festivals that accepted them. If any of these guys accept my film, I'll be sending either .MOV...

    .MOV file for film festivals

Many who accept MOV for exhibition will specify "ProRes" in their description, but will likely accept H.264. (Windows folks can't - that I know of - export to ProRes, so we're limited to MOV/H.264.) I recently had one of my music videos play at a festival which asked for ProRes. Sent the file...

Thanks for the encouragement. I submitted the film to SWSW and Slamdance. We'll see... :) Thanks, Richy!

    Hickory Never Bleeds

So far I've submitted to three Mississippi fests. I've also submitted to Sundance... with nearly 100% confidence it will not be accepted. I had a handful of people twist my arm about it so - as dumb as it sounds - I sent it off to prove a point, and not have to listen to "You should've sent...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

Yeah, man. I couldn't have asked for it to go any better. Thank you, sir! :) Ha! Thanks, man! Though I'm still honestly not sure how the film will be taken in the grand scheme of things.

    Hickory Never Bleeds

Oh, sorry. LOL! Lots of laughter throughout, clapping during a few scenes, standing ovation at the end, really enthusiastic comments and lots of "How can I buy this?" after it was over. Like I said... pretty overwhelming to me. :) I was glad to have some strangers there for objective...

    Hickory Never Bleeds

We had the premiere of Hickory Never Bleeds this past weekend. It was a local screening, so almost everyone from the cast was able to make it, and many of their family and close friends were in attendance. There were also plenty of people I'd never met, some of whom drove quite a distance...

    Need your feedback on poster!

I'm also in agreement with removing (or giving less prominence to) the names at top, and adjusting the title + your name. But this poster looks really nice, man. Great job!

editing Deinterlacing: how do I do that again?

I'd often use it over interpolation plugins as it's faster and the difference was often negligible. (Field interpolation may look sharper in some instances.) I guess technically you're only losing at most 25% resolution (vs. 50% if you used a basic line-doubling deinterlace) and you don't have...

    Local Premiere Ideas?

Good stuff! The upcoming premiere has been getting a little press in local papers, and we've got a TV spot set up for a couple days before the show, but it hasn't even crossed my mind to do a media pack. Thanks! I thought about making a "limited run" of DVDs available... and even going for...

    Local Premiere Ideas?

Hey hey hey hey hey! I'm gearing up for a local showing of my recently-completed film, "Hickory Never Bleeds", and I'm looking for some ideas. The local screening is pretty important to me. The main goal for this entire project is the simple enjoyment of sharing the end result with the cast...

    Who's got a feature film?

What's the name of your feature? Hickory Never Bleeds What's the logline and Synopsis of your feature? Fearing an unseen threat in their woods, and facing ridicule by the local media, the small town of Farr appoints a makeshift “Monster Defense Team” to investigate and remedy the bizarre...

editing Deinterlacing: how do I do that again?

I shot some stuff on VHS recently as part of my feature film and did the old overlay trick. Import two copies of your footage into AfterEffects, set one to Upper Fields, the second one to Lower Fields. Place one over the other at 50% opacity. In this way you aren't losing half of your...
