Different shots with a single-cam setup

As others pointed out, there are certainly ways to make it work, or you could use my approach and not allow the actors to improv, ever.

Surprised Realtree or Mossy Oak hasn't already marketed this stuff.... heh

    cinematography Underwater Film

You'll want to get a go pro because the last time I looked, an underwater housing for your T2i would cost 4 or 5 times what the camera costs.

    GH3 and Reflex Mirror DSLRs

"Looks like Canon has the autofocus piece of it figured out. Now, all they have to do is put a viewfinder on it, do something about moire and lift the 30 minute clip length limit to show they're serious." Of those, moire is the only thing I care at all about. Couldn't care less about any of the...

    Logic vs pro tools

Agreed it's the standard because it IS good and it basically got there first. My guy actually uses Sonar, we are all PC based (no Macs) and it's what he already owns and is comfortable with.

Not even a remote possibility until we see a mirrorless FF.

    cinematography Monopod vs Tripod

Basically figured out in this business/hobby anything worth a crap starts at $500. decent tripod, starts at $500. Decent monitor, starts at $500. Decent follow focus, starts at $500. That's the entry point for anything remotely "pro" of course you can spend $2k for $3k on a tripod, monitor...

How much prep time does lighting take up?

I have shot a ton (stills) in natural light and indeed it can be very very beautiful, BUT, it changes constantly and frequently in unpredictable ways. We have the exact opposite view. I think natural light is for huge budget films so that you can scrap shooting scene 42 today because you lost...

Why is Nick Cage such a bad actor?

He gets a lifetime pass for Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart.

    GH3 and Reflex Mirror DSLRs

Primary market for DSLR is still stills shooters many of whom are not going to want to give up the ability to actually look through the lens instead of seeing an electronic representation of what the lens sees.

How much prep time does lighting take up?

"I'd say that learning to use natural light is a more interesting" And this is where we get into aesthetic and opinion. It's not interesting to me in the least. When I go into a location the first thing we do is black out every single window in the place (unless it's in the shot). If I had my...

    YouTube Success

Like anything in the arts/entertainment business it's about 60% luck. Ten artists of equal talent, one becomes famous, 9 do not. The main reason, luck. Other factors for sure, but "luck" is huge. My top youtube video has 12K views or so (in 4 or 5 years). Kohlman Files has been watched 400...

How much prep time does lighting take up?

The whole concept of doing this is just so totally foreign to me I can't even begin to wrap my mind around it. Not trying to slam you, it's just like you were explaining quantum physics to me in Klingon.

How much prep time does lighting take up?

To have it not look like pure unadulterated ass it will take you LONGER without lights ("Oh well, the 45 minutes when this scene was lit perfectly by the sun is over, guess we'll pick that scene back up tomorrow") . If you don't mind it looking like garbage it might take less.

    poster dimension size?

Yes, 27" X 40" is a "Full Sheet" traditional movie poster. There have been a ton of sizes used. Insert, half sheet, lobby card, etc... http://www.cinemasterpieces.com/cineamericanstyles.htm

Why do people always take so long to make their first real film?

Most of us here do indeed make "indie" films, but we are at the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOW end of the "indie" scale. We mostly make what are considered "no budget" or "micro budget" films. An "Indie" feature might have a 10 to 12 million dollar budget. A "micro budget" feature might have a 500K to 750K...

How to get a crew together for your first film?

"You need a producer, or a production manager or whatever you want to name it; a partner who is responsible for the business/logistical side of the production. This person needs to share your vision and your passion, but will be the one who reigns you in when you get too "crazy," to help you...

When the GH3 Actually Becomes Available for Mere Mortals...

The offered it for like $400 with the crappy kit lens, while body only was still going for $469. It sold out QUICK. I almost got one, but just didn't think I'd use it enough to justify that over things like a tripod upgrade.

editing Question about audio export format.

"I forgot to add, when the Audio mix is finished she will send you a mastered track(s) back in WAV format that should line up exactly with your project. You then marry it to the video and THEN worry about final export formats for online or DVD or whatever you're doing with it. " Some audio guys...
