    Recording Audio in Master Shot

You have someone swinging a boom (if that's possible, the shot could be too wide for that). Even if you wind up using the dialogue from the closeups it's still nice to have dialogue for the master. You might be able to use wild sounds from between the lines, you just never know.

working out who / what is required for your feature film crew

Well... uh.... yeah... The point, we are repeatedly trying to make, is that with a very small (under 10) crew you create a certain set of conditions that can cause the train to run right off the rails. It has to be the "right" film. There are lots of films you just aren't going to be able to...

    Lens Options

I had to do the same on some of my super takumars. The smallest gear ring you can get was still a bit loose.

working out who / what is required for your feature film crew

All the REALLY shoddy production work in Evil Dead (from not having much of a crew) added to the charm of that film. Those films happen, absolutely. However, most films with shoddy production work are just crap. You can't build your plan on being the very rare exception.

Help and advice on condensing script

All that detail you posted, who is sitting where, what kind of night it is, etc... It's integral to the story? It's not the same story or events be will different or have a different meaning without it? If not, then leave it out. Also, get rid of all the parentheticals.

    length of comedy screenplay

As others said, hard to know without seeing it, but at an average of 1 minute per page (your mileage WILL vary) that's a 2 hour and 15 minute comedy (137 pages), which is VERY long.

working out who / what is required for your feature film crew

As you said tt depends on the type of film you want to make. You could absolutely make Clerks or Puffy Chair with a crew of 2 or 3. Of course you might not (and I don't) have any interest in making either of those films. El Mariachi went through about a millions dollars of post production to...

    Adobe Primere vs Final Cut

As others noted it's usually the Apple vs PC war. I'm a PC guy so I use Premiere. Also, all the FCP people who despise "X" switched to Premiere when X came out.

Any smaller(easier to get accepted) festivals?

With the caveat that they suck (but are the only game in town), use withoutabox. They actually have an advanced search that will allow you to filter by acceptance rate among many other things.

    Distribution revenues

"get a sweetheart deal as the distributor thinks you're going to make boatloads" Pretty much doesn't exist any more (maybe VERY rare cases). I used to work for a distributor and if your half a million dollar movie seemed to really have a lot of potential you might get $10K or $15K up front and...

Which comes first, the script or the budget?

I have and do write with budget in mind (I'm experienced enough to know "this will be expensive, this will be cheap"), but I can't imagine working in reverse as you suggest.

    Use of Copyright Material

Spent an entire day once recording the sounds to come out of a TV (the screen wasn't visible) as a character flipped the channels.

    Question for filmmakers...

Locations are usually my second biggest expense (after crew pay).

Scheduling a scene and factoring in coverage etc.

Lots of good info above. In my experience 5 or 6 pages a day is about the max possible without a lot of "Screw it, that take was good enough we have to move on". In a perfect world I'd like to shoot about 2 or 3 pages a day.

cinematography Camera settings vs. make up.

I'm a believer in makeup under all circumstances. It's one of the positions I always pay a pro to do. Modern HD photography didn't get rid of the need for it. It did however, make it even harder to do well.

why do small indie films need AD's and such

"Most indie low budget films are done without much pre-planning, so when you go shoot everything is chaotic and you feel you need more crew. " I mean I guess a lot are at one end of the spectrum, but as we should all know low budget requires much MORE planning. I think I did 4 months of...

why do small indie films need AD's and such

I absolutely have come out of a shoot regretting the influence I allowed other people to have on me. I've tried to remedy that. You can't be closed minded to suggestions and ideas, but you have to have the courage of your convictions that allows you to stick pretty closely to your vision.

story Can't Think of Story Ideas

Hahaha! I agree with your suggestion by the way and have done it many times. There is argument over whether there are 7, 8, or 36, but fundamentally there is a small finite number of stories and everything is a variation of one of them.

    Lens protection

Same here, even on my vintage lenses. I certainly use filters, but don't leave a UV or other filter on all the time.

    archived-videos The Island (2010)

Bump. Bumping some of my old films for new users (since I have been absent for so long). This is my second film (from 2010). This was actually the film that won the most awards and got into the most festivals (about 20 I think) though personally I believe my third film is better in many ways...
