    Anyone else see V/H/S (2012)?

Period horror = grownups Slasher = teens/20-somethings Supernatural = all over the place Torture = teens/20-somethings What does this tell us? Teens and 20-somethings are embarrassingly easy to entertain. (Excepting, of course, any readers of this here forum :-) ).

Wonderful questions - and educational for me as well.

    Anyone else see V/H/S (2012)?

I don't understand - are you saying YOUR characters are drunk, horny middle-aged potheads? That YOUR characters don't do anything? Look, here's the thing. Do you know your story? Can you tell it? If you were pitching to someone in an elevator, could you recite the story of your main...

    Who's got DISTRIBUTION questions?

I am going to interview an indie film distributor who has been in the business for many years. I'm looking for questions to ask him. Is there anything you're burning to know about indie film distribution?

sound Sound lost for a scene, can't re-shoot, what do I do?

Happened to us once. Lost an entire day's shooting with ~20 people in sub-freezing weather. No sound. None. Not a peep. We ended up using a few seconds of the shoot in a flashback scene - silent, of course. Serious bummer.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Wake Wood. Monkey's Paw meets Wicker Man. Smart, but compromised by excessive gore and so-so last act. Decent Hammer effort. 7/10

    Anyone else see V/H/S (2012)?

    A) Depends on who the 30-50 year-olds are. B) If this is the approach you're taking (planning ahead to include the obligatory nude scene), it does sound as if you're going for a "certain kind" of film. And this kind of film is generally shamelessly exploitive and targeted to a younger - and...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Drag Me to Hell and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I like Drag Me to Hell. Prefer the theatrical cut. I think people sometimes take horror movies way too seriously, and I can appreciate it when a guy like Sam Raimi just wants to have a little fun. Indy 4? Well, not as horrible as I...

archived-videos 88:88 - She has only one remaining option - to find a way to fight back

Yes, yes! I just discovered this short a couple of days ago. I contacted the filmmaker and am going to do a writeup on it. The only thing I wish I'd known before I watched it was the genre - just so I had an idea of what to expect during its somewhat deliberate buildup. Terrific short film...

    Atlanta or LA?

Oh, cool! I thought you were talking about Plymouth Rock Studios. Different project altogether, so there's still hope!

    Atlanta or LA?

I'm in Massachusetts and am intimately familiar with the parties involved with the Plymouth project. Sad to say, it's a goner. It started off as a very big project, got shrunk down to a fraction of its size, and has since been abandoned by the folks driving it. They've all moved on. At...

Sucker Punch: worst movie of the year, or just not the movie you signed up for?

I feel exactly the same way. The script was a mess, but I'm still a sucker for good visuals. And, for me, anyway, it was never boring. I actually wish I'd seen the original cut first, though - not the director's cut. The version I saw did feel a bit overlong, and I could have done without the...

And another thing: sound sometimes makes all the difference.

    Does these effects look convincing?

My first reaction was that the front motorcycle looked too sharp, didn't have enough motion blur. Watched it a few more times and I wasn't sure anymore, but the first impression is probably the most important - especially considering how short the clip is. (EDIT: On the other hand, when you...
