    Who's got DISTRIBUTION questions?

Well... the guy has dropped off the face of the earth over the last few weeks. I'll try him again, but who knows. I've got a heck of a list of questions now, and will get them to another distrib if this guy doesn't get back to me.

How to SHOW instead of TELL?

I just feel that films starting as plays tend to be less cinematic, more theatrical. Often, I'd prefer they simply stage the script as a play and record the performance; this would provide a more accurate record of what the piece was "meant to be." Films conceived as films from the start...

Info on legalities of logos and trademarks

That's interesting. I worked on a short film in which the director bent over backwards to make sure the Apple logo was obscured on a laptop. He insisted he was legally bound to do so. I disagreed. Glad to know I was (apparently) correct! That also makes perfect sense, btw, because trademark...

How to SHOW instead of TELL?

A script like “Twelve Angry Men”, “Glengarry, Glen Ross” or “Sleuth” is dependent on great dialogue. Consider, though, that all three of those started as stage plays. [EDIT: Actually, didn't realize this - but apparently the stage version of 12 Angry Men came AFTER the TV version.]

Frank "Lady in White" LaLoggia Interview - ABH Podcast 001

So glad you enjoyed that, Steve! I figure it's a great way to teach, learn, and make (or reestablish) connections. I think the next one is going to be with J. M. DeMatteis, who is a pretty well known writer of comics and graphic novels. His book Blood is in development as an indie movie...

How to SHOW instead of TELL?

Personally, I can get a bit extreme with the show-don't-tell mandate, but that's never failed me. I tend to think of dialog only as a supplement to the action (and by action, I mean the stuff the characters do). Would you be able to tell your story as a silent film? (Perhaps not, but it's a...

How to SHOW instead of TELL?

I have an article about just this thing at my site It was just posted a couple of weeks ago. Look for it: "Show It, Don't Tell It: Visualizing Internal Conflict." Too long to quote here, but here's how the article starts: Your main character gazes forlornly into the distance… thinking of his...

An Over Excess Of Boring Words

Is it just me that sees the irony in the phrase "an over excess of boring words"...? As opposed to what, an under excess?

    First Person POV

I haven't seen it, but the 1947 film noir The Lady in the Lake is famous primarily for being shot in first person POV.

    editing Editing an awkward scene

The actress is great, really natural and terrific timing! I'm guessing you had to piece together a lot of bits of the guy's dialog in those over the shoulder shots to get the flow you wanted. Really teeny thing that I almost don't want to mention, but I will anyway... I just thought it was a...
