    cinematography Which steadicam to get?

I actually have one of those for my 550d. It's awesome! Not only is it a steadycam, but but it doubles as a shoulder rig. The steadycam is a little tricky to use, but then again Steadycam operating is an art form in itself... I was able to run full speed, and there was little shake.

    sound help (dslr)

I'm not too familiar with the h1, but the h4n has been by my side since I got it. It's pretty awesome, and there's so much you're able to do with it! Super wide long shot? Hide it beneath your actors. Need a sound effect for something? Record it yourself! I recorded rhythm and lead guitar...

cinematography what do you call these kind of shots?

There's a great scene in Schultze Gets The Blues in which a chess game is played out, and in the foreground there are extras playing while the action takes place behind them. I'll keep looking for the scene, but the movie is great! A project is coming up soon in which the director wants to...

Directing cinematography in video games - any experience?

Old post, but machinema has always fascinated me. If there is info you could supply, may you help me as well? Just thirsty for knowledge :)

    Pros and cons of DSLR

Where there is an advantage to shooting DSLR, there is a disadvantage to shooting HDV. Where there is an advantage to shooting HDV, there is a disadvantage to shooting DSLR. I guess it all comes down to personal preference; as someone once said "a camera is a hammer, and you must choose the...

cinematography what do you call these kind of shots?

OTS or a Dirty Single is what we usually call 'em. (in dialogue scenes) Just speculating, but if there's something "cluttering" your foreground it's dirty. I love this technique personally, for having a greater sense of depth in my frame. Also, it's great for some "I spy on you" kinds of shots.

    cinematography Minimalist horror?

Everyone has hit some good points of topic....I'd say keep your locations to a minimum, story and pacing means everything, and sometimes it's what you don't see that is more terrifying. Let your audience use their imaginations in that regard; don't spoon feed 'em with effects and crappy looking...

But large, elaborate sets just LOOK better (in my opinion) and with age, they last.

Night of The Living Dead meets Slacker

I'm thinking of some sort of person who hoards guns....but someone unexpected (NOT a redneck; I think it's too cliche) And an elderly school teacher using her kindergarten students as "bait.....?"

Night of The Living Dead meets Slacker

I'm definitely self producing this one with the help of a few colleagues. Then....we'll see what happens. unlikeslacker, the conversations add insight, and build on each other to explain what is happening in the world. So...nothing happens, but everything one needs to know is explained through...

Night of The Living Dead meets Slacker

So I'm writing zombie script that's told in a way that is similar to Slacker. Essentially nothing happens, but it is centered around two sisters who bump into survivor after survivor as they escape a city that is in complete chaos. My question is: What sort of people should they run into? I...

    cinematography Your T2i and You

VERY informative, as I am just now getting into the DSLR world. I didn't know that, with digital zoom, one could more accurately focus. The work flow is different too. I've been so used to capturing my footage from tape, logging clips and cutting away. By the way, I enjoyed your diagrams...

    Secondary source, or XLR Adapter?

Well it's true. A passable no-budget solution is pretty much what I'm seeking. Considering no budget is what I'm working with. I'm a strong believer that the less you have to work with, the more creative and innovative one becomes.

    DSLR vs. Camcorder

I dunno...that "jello" look sort of appeals to me. It makes for a more fluid whip pan IMO. Everything just sort of wobbles into place.

lighting Green screen lighting and tips?

My school just got a really fun toy called Ringlite. There's a large (and heavy) curtain with tiny micro-mirrors. The ringlite mounts on your lense, and reflects off the curtain making for such an easy greenscreen lighting situation. No back shadows, etc. We just used it for he first time...

    DSLR vs. Camcorder

I purchased the T2i quite recently....man...believe me when I tell you it's awesome! The lens it comes with a an 18-55, and it's pretty wide. Great for interiors, and the DOF is amazing. plus, you can not only shoot 30fps, 24fps, but 60fps!! The "overcranked" footage looks simply delicious.

    Secondary source, or XLR Adapter?

Thank you! That was definitely a concern after seeing how large and unwieldy they seem after the device is on, plus the mic mounted on top....it just seemed a tad ridiculous. I'll check out the h4n.

    Secondary source, or XLR Adapter?

Greetings, I'm new to this site, and so far it's been pretty damn informative!! I recently picked up the Canon T2i to shoot some short films/ documentaries, and was curious as to whether I should get an XLR adapter to record on- camera sound, or get a recorder and slate.....Any thoughts, or...
