    Unstuck Production Diary

Mm, age makes that hard. But as said, if we had a number of locations next time I'd look at getting someone older/with their license and insurance to hire something in their name. That said, I would also make my DoP responsible for getting all camera and lighting gear to set next time, as that...

    Unstuck Production Diary

I did briefly consider, but minivans are over $100 a day here (or at least were where I looked). In future I would consider just sucking it up and just paying for one to save the headache. I'd probably get decent mileage playing the student filmmaker card.

Production Diary #6 - Shooting Day 3 Day 3 got off was off to a great start when I arrived on location to promptly set off the alarms. Like the day before, Aimee and I woke early to get to location (Juniper Gin Bar & Restaurant) with Joe, to dress the set and make sure everything was in order...

Production Diary #5 - Shooting Day 2 For me, Day 2 started for me less than 2 hours after Day 1 had finished. I’d gone to bed after 4am and had to get up at 6am. Like the previous day, I spent most of the morning feeling ill. Once we got on location and started shooting (behind schedule, of...

cinematography How much power do Kinos draw?

I can work out the amperage for the 800w, I'm concerned about the kinos, which don't seem to list any wattage or amperage

cinematography How much power do Kinos draw?

I'm filming in a church with dodgy circuitry. We're shooting with a 800w Redhead, 2 15" Kinos and 3 battery powered LEDs. I can't imagine the Readhead + Kinos being enough to overload the circuit (although they only have on power outlet), but I'm anxious regardless. I can't seem to figure out...

Stop talking about your DREAMS and work on your GOALS

Interesting, as from my experience the person someone calling themselves an author wouldn't give me much confidence that they've actually done something. Having written a book shows that they've actually completed a project. I know a lot of "writers" who've a lot of half finished screenplays...

    archived-videos The Magic Circle

Agree. Having spent time studying Children's Lit and specifically Harry Potter, Rowling is incredibly aware of children's literary history (particularly the "school story" genre) and obvious references to prior children's lit. She overtly mirrors certain plot points from children's books and...

    Unstuck Production Diary

Well we have actually shot days 2 and 3, I just hadn't had time to write about anything yet, so I'm staggering the shoot day entries. Last day of shooting tomorrow night.

    Unstuck Production Diary

Slow update, had my first day off from shooting yesterday and got the first real sleep I'd had in quite a while. Here is the entry from the first day of shooting. Production Diary #4 - Day 1 of Shooting I started the day by being half an hour later to set than everyone else. People being late...

Thanks for the support guys :) your messages basically were what I was planning to say in my motivational debrief, as I know a few others have been feeling the pressure. However I never want to produce a film again. I suddenly have so much more respect for producers

Production Diary #3 - Rehearsals Running on a tight schedule, we didn't have as much time for rehearsal as I would've liked. In the end we had 3 sessions: -A table read and general discussion about the script and characters -2 rehearsals. I'll talk briefly about my approach to each of these...

Question for 1st time directors, or Directors remembering their first film

The best thing to do is to gain experience. A course can be helpful, but like any profession it won't equate to real world success (I know terrible directors who theoretically were good and passed their film courses with top grades). Lots of people do business management courses, get good...

    Any advice on fighters

What sort of fighting is it? Is it organised fighting (if so what kind; boxing? martial arts [and there are heaps of martial arts]?) Street fighting? An action movie with fighting scenes? A 'kung fu' homage? And it depends on what you want to do with your fight scene. I actually rehearsed my...

a little insecure question to film makers/directors

Based on performances I've seen from you, LDS I would personally be more than happy to audition you. Generally my scripts are shape/colour/accent(/and often gender) blind so I'm probably more flexible than the average director. If I remember correctly, quite a few big actors (Michael J Fox...

When do you know you should give up?

I auditioned a French actress recently. I didn't realise she was French as she'd taught herself a pretty perfect NZ accent. Turns out she can do about 15 different accents and nearly as many languages. Not exactly common, but a unique skill that keeps her employed.

The power of the PC crowd

Well that was worse than I expected :/ Racist/sexist jokes can be funny, but whether they're ok is another discussion (one I don't think we'll come to a conclusion to in this thread). But I am struggling to see how his tweets would pass for comedy in any situation outside a 14 year old boys...

How much to do these two scenes?

It is. Rik thought you wanted to do something more complex, hence recommending the expensive route first.
