archived-videos Noire- experimental, dark, action webseries

Yeah visually pretty cool and a cool soundtrack. The visual style felt a little over-the-top/clunky - I know it was intentionally over the top, but it felt like imitation of a style you guys liked, rather than a careful integration of that style. Pretty sweet that you got Carpenter Brut's track...

    archived-videos Toastbusters- Short comedy film

Neither is inherently more difficult, I don't think. I've worked with great comic actors who kill any drama from a dramatic scene, and I've worked with great dramatic actors that turn a script that had readers in stitches into a silent room. I've worked with actors that do both really well...

archived-videos Zey The Mouse Episode 2 'The Prize Hat' Animation Video Here

As Richy hints at, the animation is lovely and really charming. The audio undoes all that hard work (and it'd be nice to have moving mouths, but I think stronger audio could make that forgiveable). I'm pretty sure you could find a decent up and coming audio student who'd work on this for cheap...

archived-videos Sizzle Reel of 7 films I wrote and directed last year

To extend that, a lot seems visually lacking. The only film that caught my interest was "The Battle Of Aylesbury" because I'm a sucker for hand-drawn animation. The rest of the films didn't really like they justified being externally funded productions. The issue is deeper than colour grading.

How are my first 5 pages?

Just scanning the thread and kind of zoned out a little - but, at least where I live rape is fairly common for gang initiation. Typically the far more hardcore gangs do this kind of thing, and I think our gangs tend to be pretty different from American and European gangs, however.

A question about the reactions to a hitler-centric movie.

As someone who dislikes most biopics, it's the kind of film I'd be interested in seeing. The issue is you'll create controversy if you appear to sympathise with Hitler - but you'll also create a much more interesting film if you can stir emotion inside the audience that isn't just hate for...

    Jared Leto's Joker

As someone who doesn't really care about the comic-book universes, I actually find the character design is about the first thing to grab my interest from all the superhero films we seemed to have. Of course, I'm obviously not the target audience, so that it's getting negative reception may be...

    Need Help!!

Brick might be a good film to checkout for how a crime film can be made interesting by setting it in a school. It still uses the drug/kingpin thing but in a new way (that could be achievable on a low budget). Think about what crimes could happen in your school. One of my teachers turned out to...

    Netflix Enthralls Viewers...with Original Programming.

How does it affect the content creators? I've done very little research on this regarding film, but streaming for music has been argued to be pretty bad for content creators (profits are pretty poor for artists from streaming services) - but some commentators argue that many artists have gained...

Are these the main/only ways feature films earn money?

Product placement and derivative goods (shirts, posters, action figures) can also be a big factors in some films. Some characters in a lot of kids films seem to only be there for the sake of toy sales (e.g. the 'minions' from Despicable Me).

Adobe gets rid of jump cuts

Whilst I share the ethical concerns, the effect is only new to adobe. Avid has had a similar transition for a long time - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzyKei1_4Vw I imagine the effect would only work when the two clips are relatively similar?

    Second Round of Auditions

Shrug. I guess I have a more personal relationship with people I work with. I've only lived in my current city for just over a year, and I'm already encountering people on multiple projects, so you become friends with a lot of them. Come from being in a relatively small country, I guess. I don't...

    Second Round of Auditions

Rejection messages are difficult. I've always had a philosophy of trying to be as nice to people as possible. It's amazing how, in a small country, you continuously run into people who know the people you've worked with - it'd be easy to develop a bad rep. You also never know when you might need...

how do actors or child celebs make a living after their 15 mins?

Some might even clean toilets. If they genuinely cant get no acting work, why would that be below them? If times are tough, janitor jobs tend to pay pretty well compared to other low skilled jobs.

    Hidden audio in a car

Did some research. A "shoot first, ask questions later" approach is legal in New Zealand (you have to give the option to delete the file) - so that's the route I'll be taking with the legality issues :)

    Hidden audio in a car

Yeah, essentially this. I was thinking something like this, but I figure it's going to still be pretty poor. Though i can't think of any other options, so any suggestions on optimising this route are appreciated :) Yeah laws around recording and filming in NZ are pretty different to America...

    Hidden audio in a car

It's just going to be a conversation with the driver. The hiding lavs is a nice idea, though most of the time I doubt I'll have the chance to set lavs up ahead of time. Any sort of more 'run and gun' type solutions?
