Is there anyone with a Beachtek DXA-2s on this forum?

Wow, the audio was great (despite the hiss). After 20 seconds, I wasn't even aware of the hiss. Ambient audio is great for masking the hiss too. I really liked the audio when they left the car. Where did you get such an awesome ambient track? Great movie by the way. I REALLY enjoyed it! What...

Is there anyone with a Beachtek DXA-2s on this forum?

If so, can you please post some examples of what it can accomplish? Maybe short movies you've made using it, or some audio tests? I would REALLY appreciate it. I'm an Audio Technica AT897 owner, and unfortunately, like most of us here, have a camera with VERY shitty preamps. I didn't mind at...

    lighting Dark Lighting

Since I started film making, I've begun to really look at, and dissect films and shows that I view. Recently, I've been watching a lot of The Sopranos, and noticed that their shots are usually very dark, but they're not so dark that you can't see anything. I wouldn't call it noire, but it's...

archived-videos Exit Stage Left - Web Series

I agree with some things MacV is saying, and disagree with others. I agree about the lack of narrative. There really is none. We have a basic "There is going to be a play, but we don't have an ending yet!", that branches out into the writer wanting to screw everyone, the gay guy talking about...

    sound Hyper-cardioid, or shotgun?

Well, I didn't mean you should rule out hypercardioids completely. I just know that the NT3 is an acoustic mic designed for recording instruments and vocals. Does that mean you can't use it for your film? Maybe not. Wouldn't you rather get a hypercardioid designed for film instead? Not sure what...

    Why get prosumer?

Your post made me feel a million times better. I thought that maybe there was some vital feature missing from these cameras. Something that would hinder my films one way or another. I'm used to using a small camera, and the rest of the things you've said don't really matter much to me. Thank...

    sound Hyper-cardioid, or shotgun?

I'm not the go to guy on this -- but from my own personal experience, the NT3 is for music. I know people who use it to record vocal/acoustic guitar for their bands. My drummer was going to get one of these a while ago. What I also know, is that you have to be very close to it to pick up any...

    Why get prosumer?

I know all the amazing manual controls that come with a prosumer. The image quality is almost always great, and they are more durable than any given consumer model. But for some reason, I have absolutely no incentive anymore to even LOOK at prosumer cameras. There are many Consumer HD cameras...

cinematography Cinematic look on a consumer SD camcorder

There was a user on this forum that had the creative idea of plugging into an MP3 player with a microphone jack. Not sure how well that worked, considering the preamps probably suck. You can always buy an audio recorder with a mini jack, and plug in the microphone via XLR to mini converter...

cinematography Cinematic look on a consumer SD camcorder

Well, I've been following the advice on this thread. I think you can absolutely, and definitely learn something using a handycam. My camera is older than jesus christ himself, and I've learned SO MUCH using it. Am I going to keep using it when I can afford a new camera? Maybe not. But filmmaking...

    lighting Lighting outdoor scenes

The sky and the window definitely help to sell the effect! The colors aren't perfect, but it's almost there. Can't believe how much of a difference such small touches make. Thanks for the ideas! I'll definitely add small touches like that to help sell the shot.

    Finding Locations

That's actually exactly what I'm doing. Campus re-opens tomorrow. Since my University's been on strike for two months, it'll be pretty deserted. Doubt I'll run into any trouble. Shooting at an adminstration office? That's gotta be great! Never realized how many usable locations my campus has...

    lighting Lighting outdoor scenes

Ouch. 240 for a converter. I guess I'll stick with D4N until I can afford all the lighting stuff I'll need for a night shot :( Thanks for the advice though. I'll make sure to put it to good use when I get some money :)

    Any Pointers??

Not sure how different a PA is for film and for TV. The only things I have to say come from things I've heard about TV PAing. You're probably going to be the first and last on the set. You take your orders from the AD, and any PAs that may be above you. You do everything the AD asks you to. And...

    lighting Lighting outdoor scenes

Never thought of that! That's a great idea :) Very practical! Only thing i'm worried is about the battery dying. These lights are power suckers. But I'm sure everything'll be fine :) Unless you mean having the engine on. In which case, I agree, it'll be more quiet than a generator, but still...

I think that would work! Thanks very much for the suggestion. I'll definitely look into it. Though I still have the problem of not being able to use a generator. Any way to circumvent the use of a generator?

    lighting Lighting outdoor scenes

Thanks a bunch for the diagram Dave! I'm using Lowel-Tota lights. They're 750 & 500 at 120v, 800 at 220/240v. edit: Wow, just checked out some other lighting kits online. These ones are insanely weak compared to everything else. I doubt I can use these to light a night scene. haha, damn.

    Pitching a script.

Thanks a bunch guys! I honestly don't even know which of my scripts I want to pitch. I'm considering writing something completely new. Something I couldn't shoot myself. Something I really want to do. Since you guys both mentioned having a catchy log-line/summary, I'm assuming that no one...
