    Independent Film/Music Competition

I understand your concern about it, but as musicians sounds can have a huge range. I am sure we all understand that any musicians working in film have an array of styles, sounds and moods. I don't think anyone here would think otherwise. Without showing some kind of sample to portray your...

is this a good equipt set up?

Your going to need one for outside and inside. Look at a condenser mic for inside and a shotgun for outside. You can find decent mic's for both of these in your price range $200 - $300. (Each)

    sound seeking criticism and comments

I also wanted to add (sense I to am a pianist) that one instrument in particular that you need to use in conservative moderation is the piano. Because it is the most versatile instrument it often becomes a dominant part of the experience of watching a film. Its velocity is extremely variant...

    sound seeking criticism and comments

I did like it over all. The only thing that stuck out to me was the volume of the piano to the rest of the sounds. To be honest some times I was distracted from the film because of the piano. Now that could just be me because I too am a composer and I often find my self paying closer...

    Record audio cheaply

If you use the compressor or preamp to boost level you will boost background noise. If you use the compressor to limit the level when it reaches peaking signal you only turn the effected peak down. Their is no boost in the signal at all, so noise will not be increased or reduced. You would...

editing Question for syncing audio to film

Hay, thanks for the info. As I said, I am usually in the studio recording. I have most of the gear for this, I just needed to know how to use it to get desired quality. Thanks a bunch guys.

    Record audio cheaply

Yes, you don't need 6 channels, but being able to record multiple channels at a time from mic's facing all sorts of different directions you can put together a very nice stereo mix. Now finding digital mixers that have less then 6 channels that are made with a decent quality can be a little...

battle of the mics. whos the winner?

Are you sure that all compression off is the way to go? Now I'm not saying turn the compression down to -40db, but if you set it to limit any peaks that reach say -3db then the rest of the signal will be un-altered. This will give you great sound with no clips or alteration on any audio signal...

editing Question for syncing audio to film

I am not sure of the camera type, I know its HD, so it is up to date. I will get back to you on that. As for equipment, I have a computer that will be on site with 10 channels of audio all with compressors, preamps and anything else that might be required. I have adapters of all types, I dont...

editing Question for syncing audio to film

As I am a composer I deal mostly with composition and audio however I have lots of equipment for live recording and I wanted to help a friend record audio while shooting. My question is this: What is the best way to record Audio while the camera is rolling? I have lots of pro gear that will...

battle of the mics. whos the winner?

the mic is not the important part, sure don't go and by a 10 dollar one, but the preamp and compressor/limiter it goes into is going to make the big difference. As long as you can put enough gain to make it touchy its all about placement and as long as you can limit the peaks so they dont clip...

    Record audio cheaply

I hate to say it but if you want a good quality sound, your need to avoid zoom and other similar brands. you need at least a 6 channel digital recorder, but what is most important is the preamp and a compressor. What happens easily is the audio you are recording will clip (distort). a...

    Input for mic?

Its easy, mono will get you a single channel, most DAW's or sound will automatically center it. You normally will not hear it on just the left or just the right, normally it should sound directly in the center. However if you can pan it slightly to one side or the other 10% or less it will...

    C.Adley Introduction

My name is C.Adley and I am pleased to find this site. Not only do I write orchestral compositions for film, but I also am a huge movie fan. My favorite directors are Tim Burton and Todd Solondz, although I have been more and more disappointed with Tim Burton as of the last few years (and I...
