How do I get an entry level position?

Just some insight from someone who has tried this approach. I was working for the top people in the commercial industry in Los Angeles for a while, and I started as a production assistant. These are people that worked with my aunt and uncle in the 80s and 90s, when they were working at the...

No Storyboard, No Shot List Directors

These guys are REALLY experienced, talented directors, and if it is true that they rarely use even a shot list, they have earned the respect and trust to be able to do that. Most producers are DYING to see a shot list from a director, and on the level I'm working at, they pester and pester about...

story Help - Having issue with the flow of the story.

Just really simplify the approach for yourself by thinking about what is the most important aspect of these 500 days. If it's "After 500 days, we had no food left and half of our group had starved," then the most important aspect there is the RESULT, the consequence of those 500 days. In that...

    Cinematic Truck Edit tips

You should get a tripod before a gimbal, and learn how to set up nice shots with it to capture your truck in different ways. Step back 20 yards and zoom in on it, and smoothy follow the truck as it does it's thing. Some of the coolest driving shots are vehicles pulling around corners or speeding...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Hells yeah man, language doesn't matter, never should, as long as the filmmaking is good. If people can work well within their limitations, great things can happen.

How do I get an entry level position?

If your city has any production companies at all, call them a lot, and ask to be a production assistant or intern. If you are thinking about moving to a city where there is more production, same thing. Research every production company you are interested in, and call/email them asking if you can...

Never been this excited in my life!!!

SOMEONE will if you preserve it right ;) I can't wait to make my first feature in the next few years. A feature film, if you can exhibit it somewhere, and it exists in long term storage as well as digitally in various places, more than likely it will survive to be viewed long after we're gone...

    How I got inspired

I believe he is referring to the fact that he had kids, and still had to focus on his art and be away from his family, which could be interpreted as selfish. I myself have planned for not having kids or a spouse to be responsible for, and so I don't. I don't believe that choosing to not have...

    How I got inspired

I believe denying the world of whatever art you are capable of creating, if you are inspired to create it, is selfish. Pursuing your art without letting people stop you is not selfish, that attitude goes against my philosophy as a filmmaker.

    How I got inspired

Hey Guys, I just wanted to make a post about inspiration. I have a lot of it, and recently it has been doubling every year. I am inspired to make ultra immersive, personal, visceral science fiction and fantasy films that border on the surreal and are steeped in lore. Lately the ideas won't...

James Cameron and Peter Bogdanovich Quotes

I think sometimes filmmakers generalize a ton. I don't think there is a complete lack of interest in films older than 10 years, or a lack of film culture...in the US or elsewhere. Maybe there is a lack in certain areas of the world, but I see a ton of my peers and younger folks taking an...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Bad Times at the El Royale 3/5 stars, was fairly entertaining. With a more well rounded cast and a true auteur it could have been really fantastic. Also saw: Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight 4/5 - I loved this movie as a kid and saw it again. The first 30 minutes were a lot cheesier than I...

    IntoTheForest - Cinematic

No problem. Below is a thread with a short film I made last year. We used a Sony A7s2, and I didn't really like it to be honest, but most of that we recorded with an Atomos Shogun which really improved the image. My DP owned the camera so it was convenient and worked out fairly well. ALSO...

    Help ! Unable to write.

"""And yes like you mentioned I am looking to perfect in the first draft itself because of all the research and time i have put in, that is also something which is keeping me away from writing. """" Like the admin above said, THIS is your problem. A screenplay, a film itself, has so many...

    IntoTheForest - Cinematic

HAHA, Squadron 42 eh? I'm a competitive dogfighter in Star Citizen and participate in tournaments lol! I'm in the org HHN. Anyway, Magic Lantern will give a 5D Mark 3 the ability to record RAW video in 14 bit color (yes, 14 bit...a that's a ton, but that's what it does last I read). It looks...

lighting Lighting question - bounce source and light ratio

Should be fine man. I still do my own DP work for the training videos I make, but have stepped back from doing it on my films, so I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what would happen, but a 1.2k key and then bouncing a 1.8k for some ambient/fill should work great. I'm sure you will have to...
