New here..excited about talking about indie film!

Hey Murph. Christmas of 2006 is just a little over a year away. Good to get a head start on it. Good man. I love Christmas. WC

The reference to John Ford's cowboys is a misnomer. Pappy belive in values and real heroes, not "anti-heroes". A group of bikers killing themselves over "turf" isn't a reason to compare it to a "western."

Logistics, how do you do it?

Coot Dog said, "ENTER THE NEXT 48 hour project. I challenge you to do that.". No. Challenge rejected. I don't get suckered into doing stuff I do not have respect for. Your challenge won't work. If it's a macho thing, I'm too smart for that crap. Do not get me started on what I truly think...

Logistics, how do you do it?

Coot Dog, "Casting is 90%". By ignoring casting, you are screwed. I can't tell you how disappointed I am in your failing to schedule enough time for casting. Getting someone else to cast for you isn't such a great idea. And going 1500 miles to let location isn't the smartest move either...

    I got talked into...

Ever think your schedule was too aggressive? No money is place and no set locaions are confirmned, but you know what the outdoor weather will be like, so you set the dates in order to meet them? are we crazy or what?

A little bit of theory: Is a director an artist or a craftsman?

I agree with Clive tha the DP is the technical aspect of directing the film. Fortunatley for me I have found a really good guy who as the DP can not only do that but he respects my position as director for the overall theme and scope. I am an Architect, which, in my not-so humble opinion is...

    hey I'm new . . please help :)

hey, Kaila. Welcome to the board. Since you are an actor, you will need to have a photo and resume available for directors and casting directors. Having your own website with lots of photos and your resume would be best. Are your SAG or working on it? Do you have edcuation in acting, etc...

    I got talked into...

Darn thing is beginning to have a life of it's own. Premise is growing and I will need to write the script very soon. Trying to determine if there are sufficient actors int he DFW area to pull it off. The talent pool here is wide, but just not very "deep". May have to lobby Austin, since I...

Douglas, Thanks for the suggestions. Good ones, too. We are going to a couple of places around the old south FW area off Rosedale, near the stockyards, etc. Haltom City is a good suggestion. One of my 2nd cousins is a cop with Haltom City. I live in Richland Hills. Noticed your profile...

Zensteve, Good advice. Only the DP & I will be allowed inside the helicopter when its in the air. When it's on the ground I will load in the SWAT team and have them open the door and pile out and edit so that you can't tell. I'll shoot the SWAT team preparing inside the chopper but they...

    I got talked into...

writing and directing a short film based on the "Cops" tv series that shows a documentary style shoot of a group of cops that do a drug bust. At first we discussed a humorous twist, but all of the sudden we have a real ex-cop from LAPD for the expert and maybe even a real helicopter to use for...

    Crediting people

Bill, Crediting someone is very important. If they worked during production for a day and did "whatever the 1st AD needed", we called them a Prodcution assistant, and reimbursed them for gas at least $25 for the day. If they worked during pre-prodcution and drove their cars around town to...

Got zero. Obscure shots from movies I haven't watched. Boring.

We did the ADR session and John dubbed in 6 lines. Getting the timing down was, of course, the difficult part in order to sync John's voice to the Angel's lips and head movements. Now the challenge is getting it back onto the digi-beta original for making the screeners and the copy to use in...

    Hello everybody...

Tableware, Welcome to the forum. As a many generation American, I come from Scot and Irish background and Roberts (my last name) is Welsch. No wonder I have an inheirent love for Celtic music. Not bad for a Texas boy. Two years ago I went to a local big weekend event in Grapevine, TX (Main...

Filmy, I'm seriously thinking of attending the lectures and workshops and hearing both William Goldman and Paul Haggis speak. Hope to meet you there. I'll be staying with friends in Encino. WC

Joe, My sound engineer mentiioned that software program. He wants to get it, but he says the one he wants is $1,000., so that's off a ways. The session went fine, but at the beginning I took all of the tapes from the editor I had, but the master is on digibeta and the sound eng. did not have...

Fortunately the part of the "Angel" has only a few lines, so John should be able to "sync" the lines after a few takes. The time element is about 1 1/2 minutes of the time. I can use the "luck." WC

An ADR studio is really cool. I first did one on my first "co-starring" role on "Hollywood Safari" on the Animal Planet about 1996. It has a mike in front of youand a big screen playback that they run "over and over" until you get it right. I was dubbing my own voice and it was still hard...

I got some feedback from a very good film festival. They reviewed my short film, "The Visit", and had a concern that one of the actor's heavy accent made it hard to understand some key lines of dialog. Of course, they were right. Seemed like we were not going to make it into the festival...
