    Old Tape Recordings SFX

Yeah, i agree it is a doable thing... but I am not 100% sure where and how much i want. I want to be able to play around and experiemnt, and change things back again if need be. If i cannot find any way else to do it, I will try it out the old school way.

    Old Tape Recordings SFX

Will, if you could, that would be awesome. I tried looking on the net for a plugin, but didn't have much success. That's actually a good idea. I never even thought of actually doing it for real. Of course, i want to be able to control when and how much distortion occurs, which isn't a...

    Old Tape Recordings SFX

Does anyone know how to make an audio file sound like an old tape recording? With that scratchy, warbling effect that happens to old magnetic tapes? The movie Session 9 used it to great, creepy effect (when the guy is listening to the old recorded sessions of a mental patient). I am trying to...

    "dark crimes" at FAIF

Thought I'd bump this thread telling my experience seeing the movie. I must say, having a movie screened at the Mann Chinese Theater in the heart of Hollywood is pretty damn exciting. The movie, Dark Crimes, was very well done. The combination of the lighting, jazz score, and snappy dialogue...

I've rewritten it. He's now drinking moonshine he made in his bathtub. But seriously, thanks for all the info, tips and ideas everyone... it's given me a lot to think about!

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

Awesome, Boz, thanks for the names of some good ol' cheap whiskey! I'm not too worried about showing labels... i'm assumming that as long as the label isn't clearly seen, then it shouldn't be a problem. It's not like I'm having him hold the bottle to the camera and saying, "Rot-Gut! The cheap...

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

Ah, good point. I should have mentioned his $$$ situation. He's unemployed and his life is pretty much spiraling downward quickly. So, if whiskey is the way to go, what does your wife think a good, cheap whiskey would be? Also, if it matters, he lives in Los Angeles.

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

haha, what the hell? Thanks for all the tips! I agree that having a particular type of liquor of choice is important, if only for the backstory that will help me write and develop the character better... which is why i didnt just want to make it a "whiskey bottle".

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

People actually drink from flasks? I thought only teenagers trying to look cool did that  I have a scene where he buys a bottle from the liquor store and drinks it alone in his apartment, so the flask idea doesn't make much sense (though that is a very good point about not showing the...

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

I am writing about a character who is a 30 year old, white male Marine who has recently returned from Iraq. He is in a serious depression over what he has seen in battle. As a result, he is trying to self-medicate with alcohol. Question is, what kind of hard alcohol would be be drinking? (I was...

legal Using licensed music in film

Does anyone have any info on using licensed music? I have a scene of a character walking down a street ala John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever" and I wanted to use the Bee Gees song for it (just like in movie). Anyone know how much songs such as this cost to use (assumming I was even able to...

    So Far, So Good

I'd love to see some of the process! I am also currently editing my short, but since I shot on super8mm film, i was very very careful about not shooting more than i absolutely had to, so i only have about 75 minutes of raw footage :D

    Location permission denied for documentary

I used to work in security at a hotel in Beverly Hills. You should be able to shoot inside the rented rooms with no problems... as long as you don't get any noise complaints. But, shooting in the hallways, lobby, outside etc would be a big no-no as far as the security dept will be concerned...

    Agent in the Dallas area?

Logan, any talent agency that makes you go to a specific photographer in order to be signed is NOT legit. If anyone has told you otherwise then they are misinformed.
