How bad is it to point the camera at the sun?

Well, I could add flares in post, but my last film was full of shots like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebNPRrOtKI8 Not exactly easy or time-effective to do artificially (at least for me).

How bad is it to point the camera at the sun?

Alrighty, that eases my worries a little bit. I'd like to keep my camera up and running until I can haz a GH3, so not breaking it before then would be great!

How bad is it to point the camera at the sun?

Haha, in fact he makes his own sun at night, just so he can point it at the camera! Although I doubt he uses a DSLR...

How bad is it to point the camera at the sun?

Just curious, I know in the manual it says not to do it (I have a T3i, btw). However, sometimes it just looks so dang awesome with the flare and silhouetting effects it can have on the foreground. Does anyone know if it's just a precaution or a really serious issue to point the camera at the...

    A Good Gut Check

You know, stereotypes start with a grain of truth. This may be an even bigger gut check for some... :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vImrGzDh9Tw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vImrGzDh9Tw

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

+1 to Sunshine above :D The Kingdom (2007) - 8.5/10 - A story about an FBI team investigating a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia. There is hardly any action through most of the film -- only character and story development. That is, until the end, where all the stops are pulled and the action...

Has anyone seen this? Because you should.

According to IMDB the budget was $100,000. But the director has an old interview about this film on Youtube, in which he says that the production was still very DIY, and that the story evolved over the course of producing the film (after getting to know the characters, setting, etc). Pretty...

    sound Building a sound library?

Hey all, I'm working on a series of videos at the moment, but it's starting to become a massive pain to sift through freesound.org every time I try something new. Does anyone have experience with building their own sound library so that the sounds are organized and accessible (and fitting to...

    Score FD 100mm 2.8 $25

Grrr... I keep wishing I had a GH2 so FD lenses wouldn't look like suck.

    For valentines day...

I second your suggestion, chilipie. Another idea, after you give her the box full of gumballs, serenade her with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Z4m4lnjxkY

Has anyone seen this? Because you should.

@GuerrillaAngel, that's too bad. Think of it as a fifth of the amount of time it would take to watch a feature ;) @ZenSteve, Whitestone is like Justin Beiber to me if I were an eleven-year-old girl. Some of their later stuff is pretty legit: http://www.whitestonemotionpictures.com/films/...

Has anyone seen this? Because you should.

Watch this first, as I don't want to prime your viewing expectations: http://vimeo.com/10066407 Back? Awesome. I saw this yesterday, and it's possibly the best piece of short film narrative I've ever seen. I'm still a super-fan of Whitestone, as they create amazing films on a consistent...

    archived-videos Opinions on artistic short??

I like the editing, and I can see the "fast-paced" and "artsy" look that you're going for. Something that might be detracting from that feel is that the images are washed out. The backgrounds should be nearly white instead of grey, and the whole thing should be much brighter and more saturated...

top-list Top 5 End of the World films

This is a great genre with lots of different types of movies within it (along with lots of differing, yet very strong opinions between fans), which has a lot to do with the fact that it's so mysterious. That "unknown" factor keeps almost every new attempt interesting.

Aside from the wonderful story, cinematography, editing, writing, and acting, I forgot to mention -- congrats on taking the lens cap off! Looks like you captured a video on your camera after you pointed it! :D

    archived-videos The Dumpster - A Short Comedy

Come on, guys. Don't you remember that SNL clip? We all suck. Saying how much someone else sucks doesn't mean that you suck less. Also, sucky critique won't change the suckiness of the original work. All we can try to do is be less sucky for the next thing we try, which may or may not still...
