Did anyone enter Youtube's Your Film Festival?

@cameronchapman yep, the only reason I submitted was because I figured I had nothing to loose. I've seen all of the films mentioned in this thread, and they're all great. Good luck to everyone!

Did anyone enter Youtube's Your Film Festival?

Hey guys, I'm just curious as to how many people entered one of their films into Your Film Festival (www.youtube.com/user/yourfilmfestival). I had pretty much nothing under my belt that tells a narrative except for one that I made in a day for class, but I entered that one anyway just for fun...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I got another one: Defendor - 8/10 This is a low-ish budget indie film, set in a fictional city with a delusional man posing as a superhero. Woody Harrelson (along with pretty much everyone else) is great in his role. The movie is best described as dark comedy, but at times it is genuinely...

Questions about Film Org Software and an Opportunity

Celtx seem to be what you're going for, but you'd have to try it out yourself to see for sure (it's free). If you're still interested in video for a coding project, there are tons of other avenues you can go down. Find a problem (as you may already have) and solve it. Simple as that :)

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

True, but one would generally expect a climactic event like that to happen at the end. Through pretty much this whole movie I was physically stressed out trying to read the characters' conflicting emotions/intentions. It didn't help that Jesse was basically a sociopath :)

    Comparing two lenses -- opinions?

Okay, so I was browsing a little more and stumbled across the Samyang/Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 -- http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/819786-REG/Rokinon_RK24M_C_24mm_f_1_4_ED_AS.html However, I can't seem to find any customer reviews on it, nor is it for sale in many other places. Does anyone know...

    HFG10 vs T3i / GH2 - advice needed

I couldn't recommend a specific 50mm other than a super takumar f/1.4 from eBay (the one I have). But you should know that, because of the crop factor of the GH2, it will be pretty zoomed-in. You might consider getting a cheap wider angle in addition.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford -- 9/10 Very little action which is probably why it didn't make hardly any money. However, nearly everything about this movie is well-thought-out and calculated. The only issue I had with it were some weird and off-putting editing...

    What Film Was This?

That sounds like "Stay" to me. I can't think of another movie off the top of my head that matches the description.

    HFG10 vs T3i / GH2 - advice needed

Yep, if you're using a non-m43 lens (or non EF lens if you get the T3i) that requires an adapter, you'll want an old lens with manual aperture control. You'll see it in the pictures -- a ring usually toward the bottom of the lens with the standard f/stop numbers on it (16, 11, 8, 5.6, 4, etc...

    Comparing two lenses -- opinions?

Ah, good to know. So it looks like the Sigma 30 is out. @PaulGriffith I wasn't aware of that about the Rokinon/Bower. That's awesome! If I don't go for any more used lenses it looks like that's the one I'll get.

    Comparing two lenses -- opinions?

Alright, thanks for all the suggestions so far. I agree with wheatgrinder on the "sweet spot" -- however, call me a noob but I generally like to shoot wide open or one stop below. On my super takumar the crhomatic aberrations are obvious zoomed-in at f/1.4, but on 1080p video they're hard to...

    Comparing two lenses -- opinions?

I have a T3i. Yeah, I know they aren't super wide, but they're still wider than the 50 I use now. I was looking at these focal lengths because the prices at f/1.4 aren't absolutely ridiculous. It seems like once the focal length goes into the 20s, the price jacks up for wide apertures.

    Comparing two lenses -- opinions?

I'm starting to seriously consider a "real" lens purchase (all the ones I currently own have been steals from eBay). I want a fast prime lens as a wider compliment to the 50mm I use now (I like the in-your-face look of wider angles). At the moment, I'm between the Sigma 30mm 1.4...

    HFG10 vs T3i / GH2 - advice needed

Haha, well put! This was my experience exactly. When I got my first camcorder I had no idea what went into making movies/framing shots/telling a story/etc. All I knew was that I wanted to try to make something. So at first, I was very happy that I could point the camera at something and it...

    HFG10 vs T3i / GH2 - advice needed

Don't get me wrong, they are both great. But the GH2 has even better video features than does the T3i. Here's an interesting comparison between the step-above canon and the GH2: http://dslrhd.com/2010/12/panasonic-gh2-vs-canon-60d/ There are a few other reviews you can find that go into...

    HFG10 vs T3i / GH2 - advice needed

Personally, I would choose the DSLR route. I owned a nice consumer camcorder before I purchased my T3i (not this particular one, but a good one nonetheless). The camcorder was easy to use, but I fell in love with interchangeable lenses and manual control over your image. I ended up having to...

    Canon 600D - Thoughts? Wisdom?

I own a 600D and am quite happy with it. But I was so close to getting a GH2 and I half-regret not getting that instead. If you can squeeze a few more dollars, I would give that one some serious consideration. Here's a comparison between the 60D, Canon's next step up, and the GH2...
