Also, never make payments in advance.

    Following ONE Idea....

I have a few processes I like to use to narrow things down. 1. Has this idea been done before? Am I presenting a new take on an old idea or would this make me look like a no-talent hack? 2. Can I afford to do this? How much would it cost? 3. How much time would it take? 4. Check back in 6...

could i sue someone who sabotaged an edit?

So . . . you paid him in advance? Did you know whether or not he would actually do a good job before you agreed to pay, or did you hire him without any sort of due diligence whatsoever? If you didn't do a very good job of screening him you might have a harder time making your case.

    Could be.

If I can impart nothing else ...

Maybe they just reneged on paying him thanks to technical bullshit.

If I can impart nothing else ...

That would be a bad idea and open him up to all sorts of legal liability if they found out. The general rule of thumb in the business world is to document everything and always have a paper trail. If you agree to something without a paper trail it boils down to your word vs theirs which is...

    LLC and other legal stuff

The cheapest way to file as an LLC is to incorporate in Nevada or Detroit. (You don't actually need to be a Nevada resident and get some tax benefits, afaik.) Of course I'm not a lawyer so I couldn't tell you whether you'd actually need to register, depends on the state you're filming in I guess.

Advice on acheiving slo-mo falling scenes (example inside)

Couldn't you just film it at normal speed and slow it down in post?

At what point do you need permits?

Depending on the location the owners might be in public records or they might not. But if you're shooting in a public place with a large crew there's nothing preventing the cops from asking to see your permits and telling you to get lost if they think you're being a nuisance. Especially the high...

    film-school Another Film School Question.

What's your ultimate goal? If you just want to make small neat movies, I'd say save the $30 large and learn on your own. If it's something you've got a lot of passion for and you're technically inclined it won't be difficult, it will just take time. Film school can provide a lot of critical...

Who agrees with this Film Essay on 'intensified continuity'

I like to think there's a balance to be had, but at some point you have to stop listening to what the audience wants. Design by committee is never a good idea.

At what point do you need permits?

If it's not written down in a bylaw somewhere I wouldn't trust it to hold weight in court if I got sued. Course that said I'm kind of glad I don't really plan on shooting in LA.

At what point do you need permits?

I'd be pretty hesitant to trust any sort of "rule" that wasn't written down anywhere. It's not like there's no precedence for popular urban myths to go viral though. Like the one about jerking off in the shower too much causing a blockage in the drain.

    How much would you charge?

Is he asking you because he thinks you can do a good job, or because he thinks you'll be cheaper than a real wedding videographer? $100 is selling yourself short if you have any kind of talent. http://weddings.costhelper.com/wedding-videography.html

What's your favorite part of the job?

I actually kind of like post and don't mind pre, but right now I'm pretty much a one-man crew. :v
