    Shooting on a country lane

I hope you're adding in all the sound fx after the shoot and not trying to use blanks or something. Because that could attract the kind of attention for your film you don't want if a cop happens to drive by.

Fascinating, what a difference just lighting makes

Heh, it took me a minute to realize those are the same sets. But I don't recognize the second scene.

    Opinions on lenses wanted

I tend to count wildlife and birds as basic photography. :v My only concern with the 18-105 is that it won't give me the range as the 55-200. (Or a 70-300, if I really want to go that route.) I've had my eyes on a 35mm prime lens but I don't think it's in the budget at the moment.

    Opinions on lenses wanted

So I've been shopping around for a new telephoto lens for my D5100, and I'm finding myself waffling between two or three different lenses even after reading a few reviews. With the Olympus it was an easy choice because there aren't that many options, but now I'm just not sure which one to...

    Pre-Production Poster

Is that hand supposed to be covered in blood or some type of oil? It's a little hard to tell from the texture and the lack of streaks in front of the hand.

Nothing says you have to keep the final product in the camera's native format.

    Difference between mm lenses

A lot of that boils down to budgets, and your type of documentary. A 35mm prime lens might do the trick, but you might need a telephoto zoom lens instead. Or maybe you just need the 18-55mm kit lens. If you're shooting for Youtube you could probably get away with a T3i or D5100, or even a...

sound Technical Advacnces in DIY Location Sound

There's very good reasons CPUs aren't getting any faster. You can only make them so fast before you run into limits with the materials you're using, and the speed of the chips winds up causing so much heat the hardware itself burns out. Even if you somehow manage to overcome those problems...

    Newbie hardware and software questions!

Adobe Premiere Elements is pretty beginner friendly. There's tons of tutorials out there for Final Cut Pro X if that's more your thing but it's $200 more.

    Difference between mm lenses

I just think it's kind of silly to drop that much cash on a camera when you don't know the basics and don't know what you really need out of it. There's plenty of great mid-range DSLRs you can get for less than the price of a T4i.

The higher the number the further away you can focus. Are you sure you want to be getting a 60d without knowing the basics of lenses?

So, I need to shoot in a convenience store..

Ask the owner for permission before shooting, and avoid legal issues. You're better off getting rejected than getting charged with causing a disturbance.

editing Question about CGI blood splatter effects.

I'm not sure I get what you mean by "land on the actor". I can think of quite a few ways to do the blood splatter, but it depends on where they're getting shot since the blood spray is going to act differently. Unless you're going for as much gore as you can cram in, in which case I don't...

    Submitting to your own Festival

Sounds like a good way to create some negative reactions with the audience. Do they let anyone and their mother submit? If so then it might be okay, but if there's criteria for entry and you actually are selective then it's going to look bad.

Focus on Directors - Stanley Kubrick

I'm pretty sure The Shining is the first Kubrick movie I ever saw, but A Clockwork Orange is probably my favorite. (Three guesses how I picked my screen-name.) The combination of cinematography, music and character dynamic just work perfectly.

sound Technical Advacnces in DIY Location Sound

Isolating one audio wave from another audio wave is going to take some very advanced physics, and can I see it being far more complicated than just isolating one color value from another. I'm not sure how you'd pull it off without some high tech sorcery, which would be seriously outside the...
