editing One source of sound with multi camera cuts...

It sounds like you've never edited anything in a non-linear editor before (there's nothing wrong with that!). You have Video track 1 Video track 2 Video track 3 (as many as you want) Audio track 1 Audio track 2 Audio track 3 (as many as you want) You have a timeline, you put your video clips...

editing One source of sound with multi camera cuts...

For the first Q, no problem, any NLE can do this. The reason why is you have multiple audio and video tracks, and just delete or mute the tracks you don't want. The 2nd, I have no idea.

It can't be my XH-a1 (Bad picture qualitY)

It may just be that you can't do this with Vegas. But Doug, you should also be transcoding to an intermediate immediately anyway once you've captured because MPEG-2 is a very inaccurate codec to edit with, if you want max quality that is.

It can't be my XH-a1 (Bad picture qualitY)

You need to use Cineform to capture the 24p if you want it to automatically recognize and properly remove the 2:3 pulldown flag. Otherwise, no NLE will automatically remove it (and certainly not Vegas), and you'll be stuck right where you are which is with your 24p film wrapped in a 60i video...

It can't be my XH-a1 (Bad picture qualitY)

Doug, Please forgive me, because I'm trying to understand here. You are stating that the A1 and its little brother HV20/30 are shooting 24p which is wrapped in a 2:3 pulldown resulting in a 60i framerate, correct? In which case that is what I have found. I am just hoping that you are not...

How to Open a small Independent Prod Company?

For anybody reading, do yourself a favor and buy a book on opening a business, such as an LLC, and one on the tax implications of running a business. Its both easy to do but incredibly complicated to understand completely. Im in my 5th year of co-owning an LLC and now co-own/manage 4 and I am...

    DVX 100B

Regarding shutter, films use different shutter speeds for different applications. For the "Saving Private Ryan" look of super sharp edges, they used probably 1/250th or 1/500th. For any action sports or quick motion scenes, I STRONGLY recommend using anything more than 1/48th. I screwed up...

    OMG Indy 4 is AMAZING!!!!

I agree. It pains me to say but my pop and I don't get to go to many movies at the cinemas anymore on account of the hundreds of indies that we screen each year, but we were really looking forward to it. There were glaring directing omissions (No POV of a car going over a cliff in a CGI movie...

Do Indie Filmmakers have any market ????

The best idea is to make your dream project but have it be commercial enough that it can be picked up for distribution. Most people don't want to hear that though.

    shooting-film 35mm VS. Digital

Well, your project and your budget dictate that. The overwhelming reason to shoot digital on anything that realistically has little to no chance of going theatrical is it is substantially less expensive on a small film. On a big film, the saving is minimal to marginal, but on a small one it...

should you pay to enter your film in a festival?!?

Yes, theres a few festivals that have free entry, Troma being one of them. I think its wonderful what they do, and they are one of the integral festivals out there, but you get what you pay for in the way of benefits. They can't afford to fly you in or put you up, because they don't charge...

    CREW AND EXTRAS

I guarantee you if you spend a few weeks reading some good books like Independent Feature Film Production by Goodell, you will learn as much as you ever wanted to know about the details of production like Call Sheets, what they look like, who gives them out and when, and why they are important.

How Do You Make A Deal With Investors?

You should know a lot about businesses and the way they operate before even entertaining the idea of soliciting securities. it also wouldn't hurt to pick up a few books on the subject that will explain how to structure companies and investment memorandums, and profit sharing, taxation, fringes...

should you pay to enter your film in a festival?!?

I don't know who is telling you you won't have to pay money to show your film, at a festival or elsewhere, but that is untrue. I would venture to say these are people who have little experience in entering film festivals. If you screen it yourself, you have to have a display device, format...

28 Days later was shot using "Canon XL-1S, Canon EC and EJ Prime Lenses with Optex adapter" Standard def, and then cleaned up and scanned to 35mm, according to IMDB. Search for directorrik's post on one of the digital camera threads, he's done a pretty good job keeping track of movies shot...

Which HD Cam for which Famous Hollywood Movies

"Hollywood" uses 35mm, 70mm, Genesis, F900, etc. Indies use DV, HDV, and low end HD cameras. I've made a movie using an HV20, and I'm about to make another with 2 HV20's and an A1.
