What am I doing wrong here?

I just looked at the Kickstarter page. Where are you telling people about this? I think it sounds like a great idea, especially for indie filmmakers. Maybe the problem is where and how much advertising you are doing. Are you on Facebook? So are alot of filmmakers. Have you created one of those...

    What does a DP do?

I would be willing to bet that MOST of the people on this site are people with little to no real experience on film sets. Many people here are lo- to no budget guerrilla filmmakers, many are just starting out. Many, like myself, could not afford film school. Many people on this site are still in...

Importing footage from a 5D/7D to FCP

I am still looking around. Randy's link was helpful. Can I assume that the same is true for Final Cut Pro? Are the issues with converting to ProRes the same for FCP? (I have to go to work, but I'll be back soon. This has to be resolved by Thursday night) Any other tips, guys? -- spinner

Importing footage from a 5D/7D to FCP

I am assuming it does considering the computer is only 5 months old, with 4 USB ports an' other stuff :D I know I may have a friend who can walk me through "transcoding" the footage, but do you know a good place where I can read how to do it? Or is it brief enough for someone to tell me here...

Importing footage from a 5D/7D to FCP

Okay... I have USB cables. Must I now buy USB2 cables  So the footage doesn't have to be "converted or formatted"? I don't know if that is the right terminology. It would seem to me that once the files are copied to my iMac or external hard drive, I should be able to start editing. Am I...

Importing footage from a 5D/7D to FCP

I mean the hard discs that you record your footage onto. Does the cf card reader have a firewire port? I guess I should look that up... I figured once imported, all footage is handled normally. -- spinner

Importing footage from a 5D/7D to FCP

Hi, guys! I have a couple of questions about importing footage from a 5D or 7D camera. If the footage is on a disc, how do you go about importing to FCP? I understand using firewire, but since there is a disc, can I import directly from the camera? Can I use firewire or do I have to use USB...

    Am I being screwed here?

I just had a thought... You said this is the DP's first job as head DP. What is this person's background? Is it extensive enough for him to be taking over a film you are paying for? Plus, it still sounds like he thinks he can't be fired. What about your actors? They signed a release with you...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

ALMOST FAMOUS I love this film. Billy Crudup is one of the best yet underrated actors around, Patrick Fugit is a hundred times better than Michael Cera IMHO when it comes to playing that "type" of character. And as for Kate Hudson. I don't know why she wastes her time in these forgettable...

    R.I.P. AMY

I think that the reason we mourn people like Winehouse isn't so much because she was this great role model, but because of what she could have been. In this society, we respect talent. Someone mentioned Kurt Cobain. Let me offer Layne Staley. Yet another sad messed up person, but for those of...

    Am I being screwed here?

WHO is paying for this production? If you are, what you say goes. If your production isn't finished, is it possible to start looking --quietly-- for a replacement of this person? Once you get back your footage, of course. Did you pay for the tape stock? That is your property if you did. --...
