First timer from drizzly little england

Hi, I'm from the UK too. My favourite kind of films are Thillers with sci-fi and film noir undertones. I just like the kind of atmosphere that's achieved.

The audio quality is variable. I suggest better recording equipment.

    sound scary music

This site has a lot of free user submitted music. A lot isn't great, but there are a lot of gems out there: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/ This site has some great horror music, I've used some myself and heard some used in films. : http://www.sounddogs.com/catsearch.asp?Type=2

archived-videos Sympathy For Mr. Vampire - Experimental Dark Comedy. My 2nd film.

I can see where you were comming from. I could see influences from German expressionist. The sound track and the titles suggested that. The begining was like a seriously wrong version of the end of Nosferatu. I can kind of see the grind house style there, but it wasn't quite as depraved (No...

archived-videos Horror Comedy Film Tragic is Now Available!

The thing about the films that become cult movies is that the creators never intend them to be seen in that way. A lot of people go out to make a cult film, but you can't just say this is going to be a cult movie. The audience decides that. From reading the description I wouldn't have thought...

character Advice on psychopathic character story (in development)

Read Richard Matheson's 'I am Legend'. The main character Robert Neville is not a psychopath, but being alone he gets very derranged. You start to see how a normal person can become completely changed and driven to violence. Matheson really give you an insight into how he thinks and you do start...

    The Killing Strain movie

Awesome I love Robert Rodriguiez's films. I was just watching 'Once Apon a Time in Mexico', he has such crazy ideas. Yeah appologies for going off topic on the zombies. I am somewhat of a zombie connoisseur. I don't hate fast zombies, I'm just a bit of a purist (like Simon Pegg) and prefer the...

    getting hit with a shovel..

Yeah that effect definately worked. You wouldn't have know. Of course if you were to do it in slow motion you'd have to be really prescise. Every detail would be seen.

    archived-videos Banned Portal Commercial

I don't really agree with the Booth Girl culture that goes with games at the big events. I think it's really pathetic that nerdy guys go up to these things just to stare at the chest of a girl dressed as Lara Croft. But more so it's strange that the girls actually want to do it. But I surpose...

    The Killing Strain movie

The cinematography is very good. I like the yellowish tint. I like zombie films, but wish there'd be less fast zombies. Basic zombie biology wouldn't allow it. Could you imagine a rotting corpse with no intelligence being able to run? 28 days later is an exception, because the infected were...

Interesting. That kind of thing usually does get banned. It was a bit weird. I'm not sure what you were trying say with it.

    getting hit with a shovel..

Composite video effects. Film the girl seperately reacting as if being hit. Rid up a dummy head to crack open with gore when hit (you can find how to do this in loads of places. Try www.indymogul.com) then film it being hit by the shovel. Of course if you don't want gore you can just film the...

    Movies that made you cry

Ed Wood - the bit when Bella Lugosi dies. I didn't cry exactly, but it moved me. In the previous scene Lugosi (Martin Landau) made a really powerful speech. It had real resonance, and sadness. He's then met with great aplause and praise. It was like his final performance. He went out on a high...

Anyone know any good indie/art house films?

I managed to get to see let the right one in at a cinema for nothing, after general release. I do some work at a local theatre/art centre. They show lots of indie, art house and foreign films. It's worth seeing it on the big screen. But it's on DVD now so you can still see it.

    archived-videos Current Demo Reel...

Nice work, so you did the lighting and graphic effects. I don't think you need to worry about it being eye-catching. It wasn't what I'd have chosen for layout, but it definately works. The film mentioned called 'Severance' has this anything to do with the british comedy of the same name? This...

    white balance

This tutorial seems to pretty much explain the basics you need to know: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/white-balance.htm It's surprising how much you can improve things by some simple tweaks.

Anyone know any good indie/art house films?

They said indie as well as art house so yeah Little Miss Sunshine counts. It's a great film regardless of whether you think it counts. I watched a film called Eagle vs Shark last night, that was pretty good. It's a New Zealand made film starring Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords. If...

Getting the "Semi-Transparent" look through editing.

keying is actually pretty easy. But doing it your way there are some flaws. If you filmed the whole sene with the person and the whole scene with out the person. Then lowered the opacity of the of the footage with the person and overlayed it, it wouldn't line up properly. You'd get a ghost image...
