What do you think, boon or bane?

October 16th's New Yorker has an article in it called "The Formula" by Malcolm Gladwell. The log line is "What if you built a machine to predict hit movies?". Later in the article it becomes clear that all they need is a copy of the script in order to do it. I can't/won't give you the whole...

    Auditions.

I don't think you've got the right mind set then. I like the idea but so much goes into an audition and shaking hands with the actor is a big part of it for me. Having the actor audition over the Internet would be a good weeding out process but I wouldn't want to pick a winner that way. Narrow...

After googling "Curandera" I feel I must post. Controversy, hmm, I don't think so. Looks like good clean fun to me. ***Radio Edit*** I like it a lot but if I had to nit pick, here's what I'd say... The touching little girls joke doesn't fit with the rest of the gags. I think it should have...

    Audio recording on Sony HVR1

I'm no sony expert but I've seen this using the PD 170, unless I'm mistaken, your HVR-A1U has an input level for CH1 and CH2 which can be independently adjusted using two audio level dials on the camera body and viewed with an audio level meter on the LCD monitor. Have you checked to make sure...

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

Rot gut (thanks indie) whiskey, bottom shelf, the kind they suck out of the carpet with a wet-vac. In the 750 ml range we have... Early Times @ $9.70 Old Crow @ $8.40 Ten High Bourbon @ $ 7.90 Fleischmann's Preferred @ $7.90 Schenley Reserve @ $7.70 and the lowest of the low... Canadian...

    Question for alcohol drinkers...

I couldn't agree more. Even though back story may never show up in your film, having it helps cement the character in your mind while you write it. If it's cliche you're worried about then have him get addicted to something else, Irish creme whiskey or maybe he drinks Amaretto and gets type II...

    Is this true?

If you like adobe. We make the trip out to Taos every winter. Santa Fe is on my top five list of places to live if/when I strike it rich. My wife's extended family is from Charlotte and she'd love to move back there but I've spent some time in Charlottesville VA and humid is something I avoid...

Audio Issues With My New Rig

Just to make sure it isn't something simple... Look at your audio module. Above where it says "INPUT1" REC CH SELECT - the switch farthest left should be set to CH1 not CH1&CH2 INPUT LEVEL - middle switch should be set to MIC Above where it says INPUT2 INPUT LEVEL should be set to MIC Use...

archived-videos A variation on a theme: Plato's Allegory of the Cave

Thanks knightly, exactly what I need to hear. Warmer is good, I can see that too now that you mention it. When you say 'drop the mids' you mean the mid tones in the video that I would adjust by lowering the Gamma? And please excuse my newness but whites being too white? I'm sorry, I don't...
