Thoughts on a feature length script

I read the opening five pages and, except for a briefest of brief image of a teenage boy staring at scars on his wrists (teenage angst alert), it's a rather banal scene of a family playing a game of "Ludo" with dice. The tension, such as it is, centers on whether the main character will beat...

First Script - page [post'em if you got'em!]

Great thread!! I've only been writing scripts a couple years, so nothing from too far back. First one was HULLABALOO, wherein corrupt, coke-snorting, ass-kicking New Orleans policewoman Gabriel (Gabe) LeRoux goes up against an old nemesis. Wooooo....

    archived-videos STRIKE!

My union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, went out on strike against the American Red Cross two weeks ago. We're fighting for our lives, and for our very existence. The American Red Cross has been usurped by a new Board of Directors, mostly anti-union corporate executives from...

    Take This Lollipop

Go to this URL: http://www.takethislollipop.com When you "click" on the blue lollipop you'll be asked to allow them to access your FB profile. They then take that info and create a creepy short horror film with it. Heavy usage has meant some downtime for the site. Keep trying, it's worth...

We finally WON a Poptent assignment.

Damn. Sorry I'm late to this! That was fantastic, Daniel! The split-screen stuff worked perfectly. Very tight editing. Sweetness! Congratulations! -Charles

    New Ideas (All Are Welcome!)

I like the texting and driving idea. Do a mock-commercial for a new product: Knee-pad grips for holding the wheel between your legs while you text on the road. It would be all tongue-in-cheek and highly sarcastic, but you get the idea.

    RIP Steve Jobs

Obviously, he revolutionized the computing and technology world. Hurrah. On the other hand, he was, all in all, a rather mean-spirited sweatshop owner, truth be told. http://www.inthesetimes.com/working/entry/11863/remembering_steve_jobs_record_on_workers_rights/ RIP, Mr. Jobs, and may all...

Annie of the Thousand Lilies - Short

rich, Thanks a load for your detailed and very helpful critique. You have some excellent suggestions that I'll seriously consider. And no, not naughty, just lazy. ALL the POV's are gone now. Joseph, Your kind words will go to my head. I do like your suggestion regarding Lewis! Thanks...

Annie of the Thousand Lilies - Short

Hi, Kevin Thanks so much for the feedback. I think you're right. Based on the comments I've gotten (and some reflection), I've put together a revision: http://www.politikonzoon.com/anniev02.pdf I certainly like it better and I think it addresses many, if not all, of the legitimate problems...

Annie of the Thousand Lilies - Short

Hi, FantasySciFi My biggest concern was the burden of brevity and that in trying to keep it under 6 or 7 minutes I was short-changing character development. A story needs to be as long as it needs to be in order to be told well. As to your other points, I concede them. Many thanks! -Charles

Annie of the Thousand Lilies - Short

Ok, let me rephrase that: ANY feedback or comments at all, even if along the lines of "That's not script-writing, that's typing" or "sucks seedless watermelons through a garden hose" is guaranteed to be met with wild enthusiasm. Help me out, o brothers and sisters? -Charles p.s., I promise...

    Feedback/advice on my first short

Agreed on the runtime. Anything over 15 or 20 pages and less than 90 pages falls in that no-man's land between a short and a feature.

Interns, Unpaid by a Studio, File Suit

These positions have a tendency to be filled by rich kids anyways, but I'm happy to see them take on the industry. If they start paying a decent wage, entry-level positions like this will be an option for the not-so-privileged, too, who often can't afford to work for nothing. Solidarity! -Charles
