My first feature - will it be any good? Was yours?

The main thing I did learn from feature is planning the whole process. When you have 7 actors and approx 10 shooting days, it gets much more complicated to actually finish the movie than when you have 1-2 shooting days and couple of actors. And how to shoot the movie based around scenes (I hope...

My first feature - will it be any good? Was yours?

I did my first feature and the experience was great, altough there was a lot of work. Is it any good? Well, I like it:) Does it going to get distribution, no way. Now I am doing my next feature and previous one did teach me a lot of about writing a scirpt, editing, producing etc. 1200 euro...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I have to say that Darren Arnofsky makes great movies. I do like the Wrestler, Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream, all of them has been good. Actually the Fountain included I have not seen a bad movie from Mr. Arnofsky. Wrestler is my favourite, if I have to pick one. Oh yes, I did now...

cinematography Why should I use or not use a dolly zoom/vertigo shot?

I would put the girl to sit in the chair in the middle of empty room. All the furniture would be taken away except the chair. Then I would place the camera in four corners of the room, as high as possible. So this would give an indication that someone is watching her.

    Magic Lantern & Image Quality

The great thing with ML is that it adds extra options to camera, like for instance in Canon 550d it gives the option to disable the automatic gain control (AGC).

5 Days of War Not very good, too much propaganda for my taste, altough really nice cinematography. 2/5 To Be or Not to Be Excellent Mel Brooks movie. 5/5 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Like Forest Gump, except Forest Gump movie is much better. 2/5 The Fountain Interesting movie...

Shooting bores my actors. How do I lighten up the atmopshere?

One thing to remember is that you should only get actors in the set that have something to do. So if you plan that you will shoot with actors a & b between 9-13.00 and with actor b and c between 14-17.00 then you have to make sure that actor c is only in the set between 14-17. This because if...

What if filmmaking was affordable to everyone?

Nowdays it is completely possible to create a film without any or little money. Think about before, when the only consumer camera was super 8 or vhs and if you wanted to have good quality you had to use 16mm film. The downside is that since it is so easy to make films, the whole film market...

How to find a team/ people to work with?

The main point to raise interest is to be professional. If you are not pro then at least pretend you are :d It actually goes to all the levels of making the movie. If you look for actors and do not define: character names, age range that the actor could be, synopsis for the movie etc. then most...

    shooting-film Super 8 N00b. FPS and Editing

Super8 digital transfer varies a lot conserning the quality. Best results that I have received are done with Flash Scan. Please notice that if you have a flickering super8 material after digital transfer, then the quality is not acceptable at all. I did almost 10 super 8 shorts and I never had...

    low goal crowd funding rant!

Interesting idea that people participating in the movie would actually spend money on it. I don´t think it will work in the real word, it is the producer who pays, not the actors. Well, based on my experience anyway.
