    Cinematography critique needed

I like the results, some of them are really nice for instance the shot in around 00.43 time. I have Canon 550d as well and I am specially suprized how little video noise you have in the darker shots.

Are YouTube/Vimeo shorts the way forward?

I think that films that are hits in youtube would be that in film festivals as well. My friend made a horrow movie and it has been quite a festival hit but it is not in the youtube or vimeo at all. Youtube is full of shorts and features that have minor views, around 500-1000 hits and most...

The new trailer looks really good :)

archived-videos DIET - Short Film from Finland!

Not bad actually, I did like the titles btw:) Over exposure was constant, framing was ok most of the time, I did not like the "freezer cut" that you did twice. For instance in 3.21>3.22 cut is not good, the location of the camera moves too much. More color correcting in the edit and either...

    where do you find crew?

Local hobby theatre groups and also making sure the project is done as close to professionalism as possible.

cinematography Will my actors care if my camera is garbage?

Based on my experience most of the actors are not so technical focused so I think the camera will not matter. Actually in my feature movie the actress asked me if the movie will be ready in one months time, 70 minutes feature :D But you should think about the audio and how do you oparate the...

archived-videos 'Sloppy Dead Seconds' Double Trailer

You could cut the trailer much faster, there were too much video of the man and I would also like to say that the whole material should be either b&w or color. The trailer has a nice style and actually teaser as well, but also teaser could be shorter.

    Dilemma

I have been participating these indie films over 15 years and before the youtube it used to much more easier. Why? Because you could deliver those films in VHS copy around your own town and be "famous" that way. Nowdays with the saturation of the market you really cannot have any weaknesses in...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Outrage from Takeshi Kitano. Not the best Kitano but still quite ok. 3/5 The new Evil Dead movie. Awful, avoid at all cost 1/5

please advice, does the scene work or not?

thanks, it does worry me that does it actually fit with the rest of the movie, it is extremely fast cut and rest of the movie has much slower cuts, around 5 seconds. But in the same time this is the first killing in the movie so it might work as a suprizing effect.

please advice, does the scene work or not?

It is a killing scene from my movie and I am not sure should I keep it or reshoot it. I broke every rule of DSLR shooting in the start so I am not really sure does it look cool or not. I have option to reshoot the whole scene, then it will be a simple knife attack with blood in the apartment...

Use of widescreen bars in your films?

For me it seems that most people like to use widescreen bars in their films, because everyone else is doing the same. I just do not undersand why there are no logic with the bars, for instance I used 1.85:1 bars in my film because they seem to fit nicely for the movie, but 2:35:1 or 2:40:1...

    I got the T3i!!

75-300mm lens is not very ideal for movie purposes, I could not manage using that kind of lens. I have 17-70mm lens myself and most of the time I do not use 70mm at all, but of course this depends of your style. DSLR cameras are great and they are not so hard to learn after all so good luck:)

Tips for dealing with cast members on first movie?

If you do everything by yourself except acting then you can control everything in the movie. But in the same time for you the work will get exchausting., trust me I know:) I am doing a feature now where I did everything except acting and specially the editing process and audio is really hard...
