    Finding Gigs

Fwilly- Here are some quick ideas: - Consider working for another videographer to learn the ropes of marketable video. - Hang out, if you're old enough, at bars or venues where new bands are getting started. Offer your services. - Don't be afraid to build a resume of projects before your...

If you keep trying and never give up are you guaranteed to make it?

@RJB No one is going to tell you that there are guarantees. You are at the perfect age to jump in with both feet, especially if you don't have children or other big responsibilities (these are important, too), so go for it! Discover what you want to offer the world with your film work (which...

    Two actors have passed away.

I too watched those actors and their shows as a kid, and remembering them brings me a smile. The shows may have been fluff, but they were also of an age in television... No shots to the head, no vampire teeth, no distopian futures. I miss those days now and then.

Looking for a good tripod head

Fwilly, looks nice and similar to mine, I like the build quality for the price. I'm not the expert around here, but learned to look at a few details: - Weight capacity. Think of the future: Are you going to add filters, matte box, microphone, etc.? It all adds up! - Make sure it will...

Looking for a good tripod head

I'm pretty happy with my Manfrotto tripod/monopod and fluid heads (using a GH2). I think some are in your price range. Also, go to the major online dealers (B&H, Amazon, etc.) and read the reviews. Good info can be had from users. Good luck! -kj

    On outlining?

photon, there is no way to accurately calculate from an outline. Many use the *general* guide of 1 script page per minute, so get your outline in shape and write the script. Don't worry about script length on your first draft, write your heart out! Expect many revisions to bring it to a...

    First time 1st AD question

In addition to the fine comments/suggestions above, here are some more based on my 12 productions as AD: 1. Develop your final schedule in advance, and in the company of the Director, D.P., and Art Director. Have the entire shoot schedule with you at all times, with copies of that day for...

    2K vs 4K

Not a thing wrong with this, TWB. However, in the future, I think you'll more satisfied with Forum responses if you put this kind of information *in your original post.* Best of luck.

character Do I need permission for a character to reference a real life court case?

In the United States, you can use the real case, protected by 1st Amendment rights (unless the case regards minors— be VERY sure not to mention their real names). If you don't have material or financial involvement *in the case itself*, you and your film mentioning the name (or any...
