    editing under estimated film length

Yeah, post it, would like to watch it with this aspect in mind.

    editing under estimated film length

d- Seems to me that if the story is told well, then the length is just right-- regardless of the ultimate pages-to-minute. What's your gut feeling about how well the story is told in that 4 minutes?

    Ideas??

The intersection is your location. Suggest you scout several in different settings, towns, neighborhoods. Watch for an hour. I'll bet you come upon several ideas simply by watching and wondering. Good luck!

Thanks, escher! Will be researching this-- great stuff.

    This is how it's done...

Good stuff, Alcove, thanks for posting that! Seems like almost anything is possible with the right tools and talent. So, sorry for the question from someone who hasn't done any greenscreen: Why is the screen only in part of the background? Because it has to be perfect for the important...

Am i ready for full length feature?

Another great topic and conversation, especially combined with "The struggle to get your movie seen" thread. Just wish I had more experience to contribute! Thanks, folks-

    First draft. I'm a virgin.

PassionPulp- I read through the first page, scanned the rest.... - Reads almost like an art film, some of your visuals aren't bad. - I don't care a whit about the music right now, will let it guide you when you direct and edit (rest assured my interpretation of the music will be different than...

Anybody Use Mamet's "On Directing Film?"

Thanks for your thoughts and comments, guys, I tend to agree with all of them. I haven't directed enough to develop my own style, but also believe it'll come along... Happy Thanksgiving!

Anybody Use Mamet's "On Directing Film?"

Kholi, read Mamet's book over the holidays and tell me what you think. Also, Rodriguez's "Rebel..." is if nothing else a testament to Persistence. Wondering if El Mariachi would do as well in these times?...

Anybody Use Mamet's "On Directing Film?"

Anyone use David Mamet's techniques in this book to shoot or direct (written 20 years ago)? While I agree with his insistence in developing a shot list, other ideas seem deceptively simple. I've read it through a couple times, and get frustrated at his way of breaking down scenes, beats, and...

    archived-videos 51 Degrees Teaser - Cinematic Feel

Very nice. Felt like there is a story there, even if we never see what they're looking at. I'm curious, how many total hours of "footage" did you take?

The struggle to get your movie seen

d- I agree with the essence of what you're saying. But this forum and relationships exist to spread information by virtue of questions and answers, and there's inherent good in the more experienced folks "giving back" (and I for one definitely appreciate it!!). I've also discovered that many...

When do you know when to move on? Grim tales from a scriptwriter

Couple of thoughts, AllanB, and you've certainly chosen a worthy writing challenge. - Your first para contains sort of a contradiction. The current story is kicking your butt (been there, done that!), but your alternative stories "will take longer, and much more prep." ....You might set it...

    Terrible situation

I would give Cracker Funk's method a go, and at the same time have your team scour for a replacement, FAST. He is your lead; Give him another chance and if he can't bring it, cut him. He has cost you valuable energy and *time.* Hang tough, we're all in there pitching for you. kj PS After...

    Locations?

Right on, Alcove. Sound travels really well in the big outdoors, and some sounds you may not notice until shooting day and you call "quiet on the set." Bring your people skills for the neighbor who decided to chop wood/mow the lawn/have a party/fix his Harley/etc./etc...

Opinion on a tagline, Room Traffic

d- Do you mean "inter-dimensional?" Sounds interesting in two respects, one for the reason you're asking, and the other that it seems like a lot to cover in 10 minutes, so interested to see how you write (or wrote) it up!

    Locations?

For general questions, I'd check out the Pre-Production forum. For specific location fees, it all depends on what you can arrange, and that's if the owners/trustees let you shoot there. Your local filmmaking community is probably a better source for specifics. There's a lot more to locations...

The Screenplays you read, that helped you become a better screenwriter.

    - Read major film scripts as close to the original draft as possible for the writer's original "intent." A lot of production scripts seem to have a lot of writing washed out of them, perhaps by virtue of the many hands they've been through. Production scripts can be awfully bare bones, dry. -...
