I think the cigarette is in a strange way, clever. The reason for him smoking a cigarette are what make it more interesting and even funny. The sign and a timer could have added to the humor especially if he pulls out the cigarette, goes to light it and the timer pops up: 5,4,3,... then he bangs...

The part where your character stops and smoke a cigarette would have made more sense if you had placed a sign that said "LEVEL TWO" and maybe a timer counting down until that next level starts.

Maybe she hears the violin in her dream then wakes up and hears the violin from the neighbors house. She looks out the window and sees the neighbor playing the violin. He looks up at her, they make eye contact, share a moment. Fade out.

You should develop your character more. Maybe since you are doing a dream sequence you can make it about her aspirations and subconcious wants. The only way to make her walking through the woods interesting is to have a great character. Perhaps she I a famous violinist and she wakes in the woods...

The reason the character is deaf is not meant to delve into the experience of of life as a deaf person but instead it simply adds only to his character and sets him apart from people around him. I personally feel complete silence heightens the drama of a movie if used sparingly and at the right...
