    editing Prop firearms

Plug guns thankfully don't require an armourer present (non-projectile, no hot gas release) as they use caps, akin to those in the plastic kids' guns. All we've had to do is get a URN number from Thames Valley Police (so they make the local station aware of filming and use, and possibly send a...

    editing Prop firearms

Thankfully we don't need an armourer as we're using plug barrel props instead of firearms. The difficulty is because of the VCRA which limits the sale of imitation firearms (ironically making it easier to buy air pistols than airsoft guns or rubber cast guns). Plus the only pistols II could...

    editing Prop firearms

Thanks for the replies everyone. Rocksure: As it happens we don't need the sound samples just yet, post-prod won't be for a while yet, we're just scouting for the best files at the moment. The pistol used will be a Glock 17 (outdoor/open air), so an outdoor close recording of any 9x19 would be...

    editing Prop firearms

OK, so for this latest project we will be using a prop firearm (Tanaka Plug Cap pistol). Years ago we we used blanks, the problem being they are ridiculously loud! So we found a supplier who sells film prop guns, with realistic looking bullets, with much less volume, but they are front venting...

    who controls finance

After problems in the past with negotiations and 'too many cooks', I would say always appoint someone to take control of the finances. It just saves headaches, especially when unions get involved.

Thanks, I reckon I should get a lot of use out of this beauty :)

    Editing first screenplay

It's difficult to give specific advice for different writers, but here is what I do whenever I write dialogue (in fact before I start writing) and I have trouble thinking of speech patterns. First, I list the characters, then add notes about the type of personality traits I want each of them...

    Blood sample

Although come to think of it, Hampshire NHS is using an HIV rapid test which shows results within one minute. I'm not sure if it is being used on a wider scale yet, though

    Blood sample

As above. There are certain rapid tests for specific infections (e.g. for HIV rapid test altough this can take as long as 15-20 minutes), but it depends on the pathogen or disease. Of course it depends how quickly you want the result to occur?

    Blowing Stuff Up

Have you thought about being really old school, and simply building a model and blowing that up?

Need Advice on my first short film script!

    1. How do you make add a tribute to another film/TV reference that isn't that obvious? -Okay, essentially what I want to do is made a reference to the amazing show that was "Breaking Bad." It's liking copying the scene where Walt gets diagnosed with lung cancer and he is focusing on a mustard...

story How can I get this idea to work for my story?

If you really want to use this scene, wouldn't it make sense for the gunman to threaten them, then make them have sex, and THEN pull out a camera without them seeing and film it? Or on a mobile phone and the video is sent from the phone to a media association? To be honest though, the whole...

Two very quick script-writing Qs (technical)

Yep, this. -- interrupted ... trails off or prevented from continuing. You can use the em dash at the beginning of the next characters lines, but there's no point as it's already obvious from the previous character's line.

Does a Mystery Script Need an Interrogation?

This is exactly what I thought when I read over your excerpts. Keep it concise and allow room for direction and the actors to indulge their roles. I've never felt the need to go into detail for a screenplay, and have to admit when directing I prefer to have the 'wiggle room' to move with the...

film-school How far can you go without attending film school

Ironically, I see the above as kind of subjective in itself ;) After all, making a profit on the films, if not success, is what? It's not failure, as your projects haven't failed. You may not be at the very top of the game, but not all success means being at the top. I think of it more as...

film-school How far can you go without attending film school

This is pretty much what I was thinking reading this thread. 'Success' is a pretty subjective term, based on where you want to go with it. Do you want to be the next Spielberg? Do you want to make a good living from indy films? Become a well-connected go-to writer? Whether you need film...

    Ok, recommend me something

Hey, Bill. Thanks for the great reply. The FZ1000 is several steps up from what I had (still angry about that getting nicked 2 years later), and the picture quality is just what I'm looking for. It's a shame that it doesn't have a headphone socket (how much of a challenge would it really be...

    Storyboard?

I've always been good at drawing, and the mrs is fantastic. However, my friend who I always work with couldn't draw a circle to get his grandmother's hip replaced. He simply draws silhouettes of everything, and he's had much better success being understood than me. Drawing a forest? Sticks...
