    Show vs Tell

Talking symbolism and metaphor - I love it! The most obvious method is use of lighting. Too many film makers focus on camera work, dialogue and scenes, and then dabble with lighting as an after-thought. There are a lot of tools at your disposal: soft lighting, harsh, spot, coloured, flagged...

Er, well... Even an "adult actress" wouldn't wear 7" heels out in the ice. You should research the realities of being a radiologist. The man's gripes about his profession don't seem to make much sense. Would she really start her life story with someone she's met only minutes before? Dropping...

amateur in everything in real life seeking help.

Googled for you. How about if it was discovered by accident: http://www.nea.is/geothermal/the-iceland-deep-drilling-project/ And a rogue researcher or energy company executive were to attempt to sell to the highest bidder? Something along those lines...

How should I write this scenario in order to fool the audience?

Yes. Treat the screenplay reader as being a viewer to keep their interest in the story. Just remember to add the slugline to reveal the identity and not just change the names half-way through :D

    Short Film Ideas

Might be a little abstract for an Englishman to know anything about these people outside of Simpsons references  How about: Slender man is spotted in England and gets spooked by Skinny Bloke?

tv-writing Film vs TV Drama Screenplay Differences

A teleplay has minor differences, if any at all, to a screenplay mostly based around details. However, it can depend on which television company or network is going to be using the teleplay, as there is no definite standard. I always use the BBC standard for teleplays...

    archived-videos I met myself

Ditto this. Some personal opinions: Lighting! Not so much for the dark scenes, but I felt the light scenes (1:45 - 1:56; 2:48 - 3:09) had too much light to them which didn't work well (for me at least). It really felt too contrasted and over-exposed. Also the pacing in the light scenes was a...

That's a very interesting story in itself! :)

    Unconventional screenplay

I am sure you will. If all goes according to plan we should be filming in January or February, and have the film ready for March.

    Unconventional screenplay

You raise a good point about difficulty. The screenplay itself is very straight-forward, but the execution may not be so. Next weekend we shall be making a photographic storyboard at the locations, to try and work out the best way to selectively capture the scenes, as thee is more in the...

    Unconventional screenplay

Basically, yes, although I'm not sure if this is the strictest sense of the term. I want to capture sound which comes from the environment by chance and not only that which can be visually related. My idea is more that coincidental sound is part of the scenery itself. And thanks for the...

    Unconventional screenplay

Self-directing is of course a bonus in this case. I was mostly worried about the other crew and the cast, but I've managed to make it a very simple to understand. I'm not wholly opposed to adding some music, but for the time being I want to see where I can take this idea.

    Unconventional screenplay

Hard to say if this is a good ending or a bad one  That's a very interesting back story. Out of interest, what benefits did you find it gave you in learning the local language? Were there any social positives which came from your approach, with those in the camp?

    Unconventional screenplay

You're going to be pretty disheartened when I tell you that we have no music planned either ;) I appreciate your comments, and scepticism. I should add a little more to the background. What is 'lacking' in dialogue we are making up for with pacing of the scenes and a purely visual narrative...

    Unconventional screenplay

Anyone ever tried this? We've shelved our FL film for a few months as the producer is having some personal problems, so in the meantime I'm putting together a team of 7 (including the cast) to create a short film. The film itself has no dialogue at all, and an incredibly simple plot. The...

sound If I were to learn an instrument for my projects, which would be best if just one?

Keyboard. I wouldn't pin hopes on having the skill required within two years to score a film well, unless you have talent for it and a great work ethic. But by all means learn some keyboard work, it's a very useful instrument for coming up with ideas, and easy to use with software to...

editing Need an opinion on a trailer.

This is exactly what I was thinking, especially the first part of the trailer. It was just confusing as to what it was trying to say. Also, the middle section was just too long, with too many scene cuts. I would shorten it to only show some highlights, rather than trying to cram too much in...

    DIY Pistol Whip

The very best way is to get hold of a soft rubber, or better yet, foam gun from a decent prop supplier. If you can't source one, you could always use this work around for metal guns which I used before I found foam. Hold the barrel with the thumb running alongside the grip and the wrist limp...
