Some great answers so far folks, thanks. JoshL do you compose your own or play any instruments?

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

The War Zone (directed by Tim Roth). Again, one of my favourite films. 9.5/10 Where to begin with this... This is a stark contrast to other films dealing with the subject matter (incest/abuse) or for that matter any taboo family subjects. It really speaks from an emotional stance rather than...

archived-videos Vortago (Dystopic short film, mixed animation and live action.)

I loved it. Especially the conspiracy and paranoia element from dystopia mirroring the way the real world is becoming in the west. It was like an Adam Curtis documentary set in art. Do you have anymore films to share?

    archived-videos Lost (Short Film)

I like it. However it did feel like the running in the woods lacked depth. It didn't feel as if she was fleeing the shadows to find what she is after. I feel like the scenes in the woods could have been made shorter.

    Financing a camera

No experience with Sony cameras, but in addition to what others said about a long-term payment, the interest will be a pain, especially for a camera which is only around a grand anyway. Thought of part-exchange or the London Camera Exchange?

    EOS-M vs Panasonic G6 vs Rebel T5i

Quick word about the EOS-M. I bought one a couple of weeks ago as they were going for £199 with a kit lens and flash. I have to say for the money, the quality of the image is waaaayyyy beyond what I would expect (even to the point where I am singing the praises of a Canon - I'm a MFT man)...

critique Please critique my horror script

Well, there are a couple of minor issues with formatting. Speaking artistically, however... I really like it! When do you plan to start shooting?

    editing Editing software

Done some reading up on the packages recommended/mentioned. Decided that simply because others I know (who have worked on my films) use Adobe or Da Vinci, I will stick with that for the time being. Quick question though: Abode Premiere Elements... is it worth while for a beginner to get...

    editing Editing software

Thanks for the reply. When I mentioned "basic stuff", I really meant I don't need to add in CGI effects and such. Noted. We have software for burning DVD and BlueRay, I only included that info as I want something that will cope with the quality we wish to maintain for the burning.

    editing Editing software

I have kids, I'm barely replacing hair at the rate it falls out  But seriously, thanks for the reply. Any packages you could recommend to begin learning the craft? I'd like to get anoher skill under my belt, and editing is really something that cannot be overlooked.

    Short Film Ideas

Pumpkins, ice bucket challenge, and Blair Witch-esque "walking through the woods with shaky camera" shots... what's not to love? Although, admittedly, the kid has some bollocks about him.

    > Indie Film Marketing & Promotion

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I won't pretend to know much about business workings as in background is molecular biology and medicine, however I believe they have a decent idea. You've raised the same points as I (and they to be honest) have. The real problem is that people, like...

    What's your passion/talent?

Just thought I'd fire a bullet into the air with this. Some of us are a Jack of all trades in this craft, but often there's one part we love more than others or simply do better at. For me it's definitely props and set design (yes, I know, hardly the dream of most), followed by screen writing...

    > Indie Film Marketing & Promotion

Not sure if this is covered by one of the numerous points above, but two friends of mine are drafting a business plan to open an "online cinema". The idea is to showcase no-budget and low-budget films (submitted free of charge to the film's makers) and charge a very small monthly or annual...

    Show vs Tell

Sorry, directorik, I didn't explain myself too well. Now and then it's not too unusual to add a little direction to the screenplay (obviously not to the point of telling a director what to do, unless you are writing it for yourself). I often do this where I feel I must set a tone, or there is...

    editing Editing software

OK so... Forgive my ignorance, I write and direct, and design sets (and attempt acting), but my editor is having some pretty severe personal problems and I need to edit three short films. Nothing too strenuous: cutting, little colour correction, overlaying sound, importing titles and credits...

How do you think they will react?

Bare in mind, it depends on the tutors. Some will be happy to help (but not in depth) or give you a few pointers because they love their craft. Just don't expect a great amount of professional help unless you're paying for their time. Of course, you could always run it past a few good...
