    Faith Based film bandwagon?

:) Glad I didn't offend. (and no need to pull punches around me either)

    Faith Based film bandwagon?

Rik, I've been lucky enough to muddle-through doing work I enjoyed (even when they all go kablooey) and refusing work whose propagandistic nature I objected to. I fully recognize that this is a fortunate luxury, for which I am grateful. I don't mean any personally-directed disrespect. Truly...

Here's also a little truth: everyone here who is writing encouragements is actually writing them as affirmations to themselves. If you think you can't, you won't. Filmmaker & photographer Robert Frank once wrote (quoting Malraux?) "One is embarrassed to want so much for oneself. But, how else...

lighting light for night car shots

sikander, if your schedule permits it, consider shooting a lot of day-for-night -- it may be especially profitable if you're shooting in the jungle and there's very little direct sun. Then you can light with reflectors without electricity

    Faith Based film bandwagon?

Those few words speak volumes both about this person and about that business. Here is my very favorite faith-based movie clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRqMlqsWmHY complete with an amazingly Mordor-like closing musical number. (yeah, I used to work at Gospel Films Inc. really.)

A sci fi screenplay Im starting

btw, in London one of the universities (London Academy of Art?) has in its collection ALL of Stanley Kubrick's scripts and research notes and thousands of pages of prep work for his later films. Look for the film "Kubrick's Boxes" for a glimpse. Stanley didn't need to write on spec, but it can...

    Music & Scripts

If your script includes a specific song as part of the story, then well it's a necessary liability. This almost never ever happens. If you imagine a particular song, why? What about that song's character inspires the feeling you desire? Writing "a slow jazz track reminiscent of clinking...

    tv-writing TV Show/Cartoon Writing

cartoons get syndicated and watched in all orders. in Japan, there are plenty of series with a deliberate start, middle, end. But not here. American production companies don't like that, they would prefer to be in an annuity business. If the overarching plot ends, they can't make and sell...

I'd just like to point out that I've put a copy of this thread into my safe deposit box and if any of you even THINKS about making a Nazi combat dog movie I will be on your ass with a barbed subpeona faster than you can say am besten zur Bekämpfung Hund in der ganzen Welt

I Will Not Read Your F'ing Script

Josh has saved himself and the world a HUGE amount of time. Instead of having a long string of people feel snubbed and ill-used and take it personally, he's let the world know his stance & people can call him names but all at a distance. Raised his profile, too. Surprised more hasn't been made...

lighting lighting for a mock-prison scene

Buy plain old household fluorescents. They are easily found at Home Depot. They'll look ugly and inhumane, just like... fluorescents. Bounce for fill or keep some lamps away from the practical/justified sources and use them for fill instead.

    Consumer cameras for documentary

A pro camera will let you work more quickly. A pro camera will survive more abuse. That said, there are some great consumer/prosumer cameras out there. If you watch your lighting you can achieve great things with them. A pro camera will also buy you more onlookers and security-guard...

I don't want to speak for VPTurner but I think what he's talking about is: too much talking, not enough showing. It's a motion picture. "Talkies" were passe by 1932. Imagine if you were watching this with the sound turned off. Would you have a (f***ing) clue what's going on? ("Jack" has a desk...
